Great Golf Course Construction Photo - Old Sandwich
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:14:46 PM »
Stumbled across this while looking on Windows Local Live site. Looks like this was caught at the perfect time to see the work in progress. Sure looks like those greens are 100% sand!!!

The right side is somewhat distorted since stiching together these birds eye views is not seamless due to the different angles the image is captured at

Anyone care to geuss the course?

JOHN:

How can you tell from this photo that the greens are 100% sand? What is the significance of that? Are you trying to hint that this is a Hurdzan Design project?

Jim,

The image in Local Live Image is much larger than what I posted here. From that image (and knowing the soil makeup of that area) it sure looked like 100% sand.

No it's not a Hurdzan/Fry project.

Steve - No it's not the new Pete Dye project.

Here's another hint, the picture is probably from 2004. The course is fully open right now.

To narrow this down, it seems to be a sandhill / pine barrens type of area...

My first guess, due to famililarity would be the Pine Barrens of long island, Baiting Hollow area...

However, other areas could include:
 - Cape Cod sand hills (not as much movement to the land as you'd see there)
 - South Jersey (east of Pine Valley)
 - NC SandHills (would have to be in the winter - notice the trees being bare) Also, don't see any clay which you might expect in some parts of the land / soil being used for grading.

Correct Mr. Shaffer!!

It's Old Sandwich in Plymouth MA.

Stumbled across it as I was looking at a photo of Waverly Oaks across the road and noticed the birds eye images we're availabale. Looked arounfd and found this. Don't know the routing though,. Anyone who has played it could they comment on it?
