Has anyone played it?  9 by Kelly moran and 9 by Karl Olson. i played the compact/minimal Olson portion which had some nice shaping. i think KBM nine  has more elevation change. thanks

Mark,
Never knew Kelly did this one, let alone Karl. Having passed by it many times and actually driving in there once to have a look, I should have probably taken the time to go look more in depth.

Yes, Mark I did the back nine.  It was to be a whole new 18 stretching beyond where my back nine holes are located.  Things didn't work and was left to add 9 to the original.  The gentleman who owns it Bill Schulman probably is the most influential owner on my own attitude toward business than any other person I have ever met in the business other than maybe RVH.  I called him about the prospective course, he told me to come meet him which I did the next morning I drove out to Calverton arriving about 9AM and sat in his offic until 6:00PM and the converstion never stopped.  It was a life lesson, and one of the standout moments in my life.  The super there Bill Nohejl, probably the hardest working man you will ever meet.  I pretty much have lost touch with them as I got busy with Laurel Links and it seemed every trip out there I spent all my time serving them so regrettably I have not fully paid back to Mr. Schulman everything he has given me...maybe that is something I need to correct this year.

Looked at the Website and it looks an interresting course. In the photo gallery either the 2nd and the 6th are identical or they have used photos of one hole for both. Shame there is nothing about the history of the place on the site.

It is a fun place to play.

The original front nine is very short with thick rough around the fairways and greens and some tight wooded areas.  The smallish greens on the front are fairly slow with moderate slopes.  A mid handicapper having a good day with the driver has an opportunity to shoot around par for the front nine.  Those that miss the fairways will probably struggle at first with an irrigated thick rough that is more similar to a perfectly manicured lawn that it is to what you typically see on other courses on LI.

KBM's back nine is very different.  Large greens, wide fairways and some severe angles that call for varied shot shapes.  I think KBM probably had a tight budget but he made the most of it as each hole from 10-17 has at least one shot that gives you a little thrill if you can pull it off.  Tee to green is not penal, but the greens especially 10, 12, 15 and 17 are challenging and a good glimpse of the extrememly challenging putting surfaces you will find at his nearby Laurel Links.

Single digits will likeley get bored with the front nine, but overall a fun place for most handicappers.
