Dogleg one shotters
« on: March 13, 2006, 10:46:28 PM »
What are good examples of these??

Why are they not designed as much any more??

It seems it would add some 'spice' to an otherwise ordinary par-3.

btw doesn't Walnut Lane have a dogleg one shotter??

And I dont mean a tree in the middle of the hole, protecting the green, I mean a real dogleg one shotter

 ;)

Re: Walnut Lane

From Ran's review:

5th hole, 175 yards: One of the first dog-leg one-shotters, where a large tree on the left can make a draw mandatory for attacking a left hole location. While such a ploy can seem silly, it seems very appropriate at Walnut Lane.

The question I have is what exactly constitutes a dogleg par 3? Does there have to be some physical impediment to the flight of the ball, e.g. trees or a massive dune
(as per Cruden Bay)?

For example, on #17 at Pebble Beach, you would have to be really, really good to hit a fade into any back pin placement and still catch the green. You really have to hit a draw to have any chance here. Does that make this hole a dogleg left one shotter?

What about long forced carry, par 3's where a short hitter must take a circuitous route around a water hazard. Does that make these holes dogleg "one" shotters?

I think it is the 11th at Charles River.  Great hole, great course, great companions!
