Which hole of the three Bandon courses will be my Waterlou..
« on: January 18, 2006, 10:31:49 PM »
Disaster always strikes me where I least expect it, with that in mind which hole of all in the three courses at Bandon do you predict will lead to my greatest failing.  By posting this I pledge to finish them all..

note: I don't know if that is how to spell Waterlou but I used to take water to my uncle Lou and of course the song was sang many a hot summer day..

With the winter wind, I would guess 4 on either Bandon or Pacific...

Score-wise?

Bandon Dunes, without a doubt.  But wind and rain could change that.

I'm going to be far more interested in which he comes back raving the most about... the odds are are PD, but JK being who he is, don't bet on that not happening.

Having just today played PD, I am once again reminded at what a simply wonderful, fun, and (yes I will say it) great golf course it is.

Where you might struggle does indeed depend on the wind while you are here.  If it stays from the south, I will say....

........ either 16 or 18 will be your undoing, John.

Good Luck.......enjoy!

The tight and blind opening shot at Pacific Dunes can be a disorientating beginning to a round for many golfers.  Those of us who are not prepared for fast and firm conditions make fools of ourselves bumbling around on these greens complexes.

So in a way, every hole poses a new and real threat to what you may be use to.  You could suck on the first, suck on the second, and score a few snowmen along the way to a lame three days.  (yeah right, ;)

I predict you will tank on the fifth hole of the first course that you play.  Whatever that is, I do not recall the order you are playing in off the top of my head.

Either the 5th at BD, 5th at PD or 5th at BT.  All are good holes.
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

John

Is Waterlou some kind of water closet down in your territory?

He'll probably come back complaining about the lack of conditioning at the sheep ranch and the lack of another group to follow.

If you're a fader then I'd say PD #4.  If you are hooker, then PD #13.

Have a great time (though I see you won't be reading this until after you get back).  Be sure to kick Tom Jefferson in the knee for me while you're out there.  That guy is one big jerk -- always bragging about the good weather, the great golf courses, blah blah blah.   ;)

It was the 4th at Bandon Trails.  I was even and feeling pretty good about myself when I hit a respectable if not kinda short drive down the middle of the fairway.  There is a large sand ridge that gives one a blind shot to the green from this position. (The day before I had hit a pull hook in to the 3rd fairway and had an open shot 30 yds longer) I was 170 out and thought I would hit a punch 4 iron.  Oops, I hit a chicken wing half shank simply because my mind was too weak to hit the blind shot comfortably.  Now I'm in a little spot of tree growth in the fairway and hit a sand wedge backwards to 130 yds.  9 iron, putt, putt, putt and I have a smooth seven and delightful 3 over after 4.  I can't believe that I went on to hit 15 greens and not break 80.  It is truly a great course.

Huck, I explained above that it is Waterlou because I used to bring water to my uncle Lou..

AHA!  4 at BT.  I can see the being a round-killer for sure.  You're surely not alone there, JK.

And yes that is a great golf course.

Say hi to Uncle Lou.

My, my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender
oh yeah, and I have met my destiny
in quite a similar way
the history book on the shelf
is always repeating itself

Waterloo - I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo - promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo - couldn't escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa, wa, wa, wa, Waterloo - finally facing my Waterloo

My, my, I tried to hold you back but you were stronger
oh yeah, and now it seems my only chance
is giving up the fight
and how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose

Waterloo - I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo - promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo - couldn't escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa, wa, wa, wa, Waterloo - finally facing my Waterloo

So how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose -

Waterloo - couldn't escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa, wa, wa, wa, Waterloo - finally facing my Waterloo
