further to your last post above.

I have done the last one when they have been in our city.

I have also taken the Course Supt, the 2-IC, the President and Manager on interstate visits to another club or three, three times in three years.  This can be a vision expanding experience.  Make sure the area visited has similar climatic conditions, and some of the courses have similar soils and membership expectations.  We are fortunate here, because the adjacent (well, 450 miles away) city is Melbourne. :)

If you can, also find someone (perhaps a turf advisor, perhaps a knowledgeable second in charge) that you know your supt can talk to.  This latter point is probably more important for the Chairman's role.  Get these two guys together, ask your 'dumb' questions and listen to the two educated people discuss the answers.  Then, implement whatever your Supt says, as long as it makes sense.

PS Dick Daley, looks like the golf season and the gridiron/football season are both finishing early this year in Green Bay.   :( :(

James and Dick:

Thanks for the thoughts.  I have read the Scott Anderson and Linc Rhoden information with great interest and am certainly interested in that approach.  Being new, I need to learn to work with the group and build credibility rather than push change.

Vikes/Pack next week, both on winning streaks and battling for 3rd place in the prestigous NFC North!  My son has insisted on becoming a Packer fan and will be wearing his Favre jersey.  I have suggested he sleep in the garage.

James, I'm afraid you are correct on the end of another season.  Our home course closed for the year yesterday.  It was not good enough weather to play.  But, I did have a year end feast of golf, playing 27 holes a day for the last 5 out of 7 days last week.

As for football, well... the Badgers faded, and the Pack occupy one wing of the orthopedic hospital.  So, it is on to hockey and curling... ;) ;D

Jason, you must introduce your lad to Turboe, the Brett Favre look-alike, who is actually a big Vikes fan. ;D  Who will win in the battle of the boats...the purple love boat or the green and gold Titanic? ::)

I don't think I would ever predict a Vikings win on the road on grass.  On the other hand, I'm not sure I should ever predict a Packer victory either.

Given that the Packers seemed to find a running game this week (I only saw the first quarter), I suspect that the Packers will see their third victory this week.

this reminds me of the two polite gentlemen entering the same turnstyle revolving door.  Oh no, you first...  no, no, you first kind sir...  ;) ;D ::)

Either way Jason, both teams are in some sort of revolving door this year. :-\

And there are no gentlemen anywhere to be found -- unless you go by the definition implicit in the "Gentlemen's Club" description of a strip joint.
