I have done the last one when they have been in our city.
I have also taken the Course Supt, the 2-IC, the President and Manager on interstate visits to another club or three, three times in three years. This can be a vision expanding experience. Make sure the area visited has similar climatic conditions, and some of the courses have similar soils and membership expectations. We are fortunate here, because the adjacent (well, 450 miles away) city is Melbourne.
If you can, also find someone (perhaps a turf advisor, perhaps a knowledgeable second in charge) that you know your supt can talk to. This latter point is probably more important for the Chairman's role. Get these two guys together, ask your 'dumb' questions and listen to the two educated people discuss the answers. Then, implement whatever your Supt says, as long as it makes sense.

PS Dick Daley, looks like the golf season and the gridiron/football season are both finishing early this year in Green Bay.
