Mike:

Do you really think it looks like a Fazio course?  That was the very reason I posted the picture without identifying whose it was.  I too see similarities to Strantz in the bunkering of this hole and the generous fairway left making the hole longer on that line.

I take it that it doesn't get too windy in Bend, Ore. This reminds me somewhat of the carry over the water on #16 at Hazeltine (although the rest of the hole doesn't, at all) -- and even though that carry is less than 200 yards, on a windy day it can be as intimidating as hell.

Not a good opening hole under circumstances, in my book. But not bad for, say, a #16...

Actually I was told it usually gets fairly windy at Pronghorn, hence the width in the fairway I suspect.  I doubt it plays into the prevailing wind.

It can get fairly windy there, especially in the afternoons,  and the prevailing wind on this hole would be off of the right.

Matthew,

Actually, it looks quite a bit like Galloway National, Pine Hill, and World Woods Pine Barrens.  That's not necessarily a bad thing but it's distinctive in the sense of using the impressive looking, "intimidating" looking waste area in a place where it can be easily carried or otherwise avoided.
