I don't know who will win. I have a good feeling that Jack will make the cut and play all four days in his last major. That will make for good viewing.

With the hard and fast conditions I think length is pretty much negated. #14 at 618 is being reached with 6 irons.
Who has the best touch, imagaination for the touch, and putting stroke?

Since Seve skipped out I'll go with a) Jose Maria Olazabel, followed by Sergio, then any Australian w/o an e-bay caddy.
The Claret Jug will not reside in the US.

My pick of Luke Donald is looking pretty good right now.

-4 after his first round

Is it time to revisit this question or shall we wait until the conclusion of round 2?

Monty has a bit of a charge going here in the second round.

Why can't this guy get a major, especially this one?

I think the title of this thread may need to be changed to "Who's going to finish 2nd in the Open Championship?"

Tiger is telling the field:

You are going to have to do BETTER to beat me.. You are going to have to play ABOVE where you can to catch me..

And they won't..

There is going to be an autopsy after this skewering..

TIGERBALL 2005 is in Session..

I'm in Awe.. Love to watch the man play even though his personality is wanting in many ways.. I'm amazed at his mental game and genius though..

Sean,
Retief is looking good at 16-1. What were the odd for did my picks of Sergio and Jose Maria?

Don'y know what the odds were on the Spaniards.  I would think Jose would have been in the region of 40-1 or 50-1.  Look, you can still get Campbell to win at 40-1.  That is a bet worth putting a fiver on.

Jose does look good.  In truth, I think it is between Jose, Goosen and Woods.

Non-architecture post of the week:

Looking at this leaderboard, something tells me 14, 15 under is going to be the target.  Therefore, Vijay, for example, will have to throw up a 64--and even though I'd love to see him come from behind and put Tiger down, he hasn't been putting well for the past month or so, so I'm not going to say him.

I'm almost inclined to say a 63 from the group at -6 can win it.

Best case scenario, Tiger will run in place--figure 71,72 for him.  If he puts up a 65 tomorrow and blows away from everyone, I'll join the rest of the faithful. Something tells me that him being invincible taking the lead into the final round just won't last--I don't think he'll have a Norman/Augusta thing, or at Muirfield '02 Saturday (81) but I do think it's going to end eventually.

I've almost noticed that a way to beat him is to make him chase--make him pull the driver and hit into trouble, fire at sucker pins, etc.

For the rest, Olazabal hasn't had that one low round yet--that 63-66 range.  Goosen had a 66 today, he could do it again.

Faxon, no.

Montgomerie, well, that's the sentimental choice.

Sergio is an interesting choice, as is Campbell.

The weather may change tomorrow--it seems it's been pretty mild thus far, no?

I believe we got the worst Tiger has today.....unless the reports of big time wind come tomorrow.  Same conditions tommorow as today....Woods shoots 68 and wins by 2 or 3..........the heart is hoping for someone else, but the wallet is rooting for Woods!

Woods O/U round by books.....69

Goosen/Garcia/Singh 70

Monty/Olazabla 70'

Was there a huge wind at their backs today, or is the ball really getting this ridiculous?

I don't remember Daly hitting six irons into 16 and driving the 18th when he won, and now Monty, much less Tiger, can?

I think Tiger has to be looking at shooting at least a 69 if he wants to seal this deal.  A 68 would be awfully difficult to beat.  However, the guys chasing can shoot 65s round TOC.  Either way, Tiger will not give it away.  Somebody in the pack is going to have to go low.  I expect they all know this.  Question is, who has the patience to wait on pulling the trigger?  I think Jose and Goosen are the only two close enough and with enough savy to bide their time.  The only problem for them, Tiger knows how to do this as well.

With the winds kicking up, I think that tiger is far from a lock.. He should win, but with his spotty tee game amplified by the wind, he's got a lot more work to do than he would like.

Someone needs to come out early and make a run at him..

I just hope it isn't monty.

This is one of those "the world is divided into two types of people" things. I love watching greatness. I love watching the best players of all time at the very peak of their powers. That's what I remember -- Nicklaus winning majors, not Lou Graham.

Not that I have anything against Lou Graham, or Orville Moody, or Ben Curtis -- I'm just saying that when the great ones win, it resonates through the decades. I wish I could have seen Hogan play. Jack Fleck? Not so much.

Tiger is competing against history, and to me, that's thrilling.

Mike Clayton,

Thanks for the tip.  I put a fiver on each way on your man..at a 100/1!!  I got 1/4 odds for his 5th place.  I also had Tiger at 5/2. I put a fiver each way on the Garcia and Campbell.

I bet on Goosen and Els but only to win...a good day at the bookies for once in my life.  The last time I won on The Open was when Seve won at Lytham....I however got done for speeding leaving work early on the Monday to go watch the final holes!!
