Machrihanish as a Day Trip
« on: June 07, 2005, 08:17:43 PM »
Coming from the area around Troon, first of all can Machrihanish be done as a day trip (travel there, play and go back to Troon in the same day)?

Is it worth the trip for just one day?

Has anyone taken the ferry? Does it save a lot of time?

Thanks for your help!

Check the archives, there was a recent thread on Loganair's day trips from Glasgow airport. You can choose Machire or Machrihanish and they'll fly you there in the morning, have a round of golf and lunch and be back in Glasgow by bed time. I think it's something like 150 pounds for the package deal.

Machrihanish is certainly worth playing, but doing the Loganair deal is pretty expensive.  We took the ferry to Arran to stop for the night and play Shiskine.  There are some very bizarre holes there.  Puts Painswick to shame.  The scenery is superb and the price is right. It is only a 12 holer so two games is not terribly difficult to fit in.  We then took another ferry to play a few games at Machrihanish.  You can play two games at each and the cost of the ferry for the same money.  There is probably enough left over for a meal or two.

I am looking for a way to combine Machrie and Machrihanish without having to fly back to Glasgow.  The ferry to Machrie is quite expensive and not terribly quick.
