Does your private club offer memberships to juniors?
« on: May 26, 2005, 10:08:25 PM »
David Leadbetter is on a campaign to encourage the top private clubs to offer memberships to juniors... without their parents having to be members!

Leadbetter says it is a common practice in the UK & Scandinavia and that junior golfers are more advanced than their US counterparts as a result. He also thinks it is the best way to "grow the game" and get the numbers up.

Do you know of a private US club that offers any type of individual membership for junior golfers? I know of several clubs that "adopt" promising players and allow them to play for little or no charge, but I don't know of any that have a special membership for "regular" juniors without their parents.

Talamore is very accomodating to Junior Golfers and we offer a Junior membership.

The juniors can play any time except between 10AM and 2PM on Saturday and Sunday. They also get range and practice facility privileges.

I know Commonwealth National and Spring Mill offer similar packages in the Philadelphia area.

Michael,

Parental membership is not a prequisite for junior membership at any (except one) of the private clubs in my neck of the woods (Manitoba, Canada). The number of juniors accepted is limited, and the cost of said memebrship is more expensive than if their parents were members, but it's not prohibitively high. I'm actually surprised this question is being asked, I thought every club, except the most exclusive, allowed unattached juniors to join.

Holston offers 'junior' membership to a limited number of juniors whose parents are not members.  The dues are quite low, very low.  The only restriction is that the family must not belong to another private club.  Junior is < 18 yrs.
