Is Ted Robinson an environmentalist?
« on: May 09, 2005, 12:49:36 PM »
"Robinson, a serious environmentalist, uses water features as conservation measures, on the premise that reducing a course
s sodded areas lessens the need for watering".
I don't know Ted, but I wonder if the water features he incorporates actually save water?
"Perimeter-weighted fairways", The best euphemism for containment mounding I've ever heard.

Interesting way to claim to be an enviromentalist.  He could choose to leave the areas where the lakes are as native grass areas which require no water.

The TR design near you, in amongst a housing development, has over-irrigated turf far off the fairway all the way to the edge of property up to the housing.  That doesn't seem very enviromentalist to me (if water saving is the definition).

The editors of the Golf Insider, who wrote, Golf Travel by Design, which is otherwise a very good book, subtitle the Ted Robinson chapter, 'beautifying golf and the environment".  The only proof they give of the latter is that Ted Robinson, Jr. belongs to the Sierra Club and that Robinson Ranch is supposed to be very environmentally advanced.  His designs in P. Springs, such as the Marriott courses, seem very artificial looking-not blended in well with the environment.  Maybe looks are deceiving or maybe Robinson is a recently converted environmentalist.
