The LIPGA and Westchester PGA are being contested on Garden CityCC (Travis/probably some Emmett) and Trump National (J. Fazio on top of a pair of nines from a destroyed Emmett--I played it a couple of times before--it had some good holes)  The results can be accessed through met.pga.com   It is worth noting that only 1 player broke par on GCCC and the pins were far from being most difficult--those are usually seen during the pro-member.  This course is a true contender for most underated--quite a few really wild green contours.

Robert,

Nice playing-as usual.
Garden City CC is an excellent and fun golf course to play-like so many in the MET Section nobody's  heard of.
At one point I said to one of my fellow competitors that the modern architects should be required to play and study such courses as this and Engineers before they even attempt design work. And if they still don't get it made to come back until they do.
That said, the scoring yesterday had a bit to do with the cold (50 degrees for the high and a frost delay) and the 30 mph winds that only got worse as the day went on.
I shot 77(I did manage to hit 2 fairways and 4 greens) to miss match play by one thus avoiding the conflict with coaching a Little league game this afternoon.

Good Luck the rest of the week

My recollection is that GCGC held up pretty well last year, too, didn't it?

How did Trump National fare?

NO OFFENSE TO ROBERT, JEFF, OR OTHERS WHO PLAYED IN THIS... SMARTASS COMMENT COMING....

Isn't Chelsea Piers a driving range?

If so, well... I find it kinda cool that a driving range pro beat all of these guys from the blueblood clubs (and other places).  Of course, that's likely explained by the fact he actually gets to practice while they work at everything but their own games...but still... this makes me smile.

Tom,

It's not really unusual. There are alot of guys whose primary focus is to play in tournaments. Quite often they'll hook up with a driving range, which allows them to be a PGA section member and play in all the section events.

The winner of last years Georgia PGA section championship (Jeff Hull) plays out of The Georgia Golf Center.

Tom H.-nice observation
Tom Sutter is an excellent player and good guy who I'm sure has leveraged his playing ability and personality into invites at many of the outstanding local courses to keep his game sharp.
This time of year the players who play the best are those who competed all winter in the winter series in Florida typically dominated by MET section players.I believe Tom
still plays in the winter.

Jeff

No need to explain to anyone on this website how to leverage invites to the better area courses.

In spite of a terrible ball striking day, Jeff showed how great his course management abilities and composure were.  I left just after watching his bad break approach into 18.  The wind switched while ball was barely in flight from dead into the wind to slightly down and hard right to left--his ball flew over onto the cart path where the drop area ( because of a new clubhouse construction) was just about an impossible up and down.  As I said on another post, Jeff may come accross as very humble, but he really is one of the elite pros and should easily be ranked among the top 50 instructors--something about affiliations and politics has something to do with his being dropped off the Golf Magazine list a couple of years earlier.
