Hi Stuart,

how were you involved in the courses down on the peninsula?

In regard to the block on which the Moonah course was built at The National, I think it's accepted that Norman, Harrison and co had first choice of the land, roughly sticking with a 'line in the sand, dividing the block into north and south halves. It's my understanding that they designed a course, and then, once the overlay was competed with their route plan, and that of the TWP boys, the Ocean course was 'nudged' out of the way. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's how it unfolded.

Referring to your

"This means that you play seven long holes either across or into the PREVAILING wind without respite"

What you are actually saying is that there are no downwind holes for respite. I would put #13 (Par3) into a potential respite hole with a fair chance of being downwind or partially downwind with a SW - S wind

There is also one thing missing .  A study of the meterolical data for Cape Schanck and I think you will find that there is not  just 1 prevailing wind but 2 prevailing wind directions depending on the season.

Summer - South to SSW

Winter - North to NNW

In the land provided to Bob you will see that holes 6 - 15 occupy the land that runs east west whilst holes 1-5 and 16 -18 is in the land that runs north- south. A study of a plan or aerial photo and you will see there is actually a great variety of orientation of holes throughout the course for which Bob would  have been very concious of.  In comparison the holes on the Ocean course tend to run either north or  southwards.
