I think the ground game is alive and well, it's just moved up to the green, hence the armed shot that releases and follows the contours. Our sixth at Hotchkiss has 2 ridges( think of a "T" inside an "O" forming 3 sections with the back being about 9 yds deep from ridge to over the usually firm green. Trying to hit this section and hold it on the fly is a low percentage shot, running it back there is more reliable, under any conditions.
I'm sure there are many other similar examples.
