Ridgewood CC- Connecticut Dev Emmet
« on: September 30, 2004, 11:22:47 AM »
At my member guest yesterday I saw an old member who quit the club last year and moved to Ct.  He told me he was a member of a really nice track in there called Ridgewood CC in Danbury. Anybody have played it?  I see it is an Emmet course.

Yes, I have played it.  The front 9 is for the most part entirely Emmet's layout.  The backnine was severlyhurt by the introduction of Interstate I-684 and they lost three holes completly and parts of the ninth (orginal tee box moved forward).

That makes four Emmet tracks severly hurt by interstates Pelham CC, The Powelton Club (twice), Wheatly Hills CC, and Ridgewood CC

The present 10th hole is a RTJ Sr par 3 with a green that is fronted by water.  The present (I believe) 15th and 16th holes are also RTJ Sr holes that were added when I-684 cut through.

The front nine has some very nice rolling terrain and a couple of very good holes.  My numbering may be off, however I believe it is the par 4 3rd that plays to a green 20 feet above the fairway and slopes from back to front.  The 4th tee plays as a par 4 from the top of this hill and dog-legs sharp right.  The 6th is a medium length par 5 that plays over rolling terrain thru a valley to a green again perched slightly up on a hill.  The 8th is a short to medium length raised par three with bunkers gaurding the front.

The final kicker is that the club has retained Roger Rulewich (spelling - not that I care with what is is doing to the bunkering) to renovate the course.  He has presently redone the bunkering on all holes except 6, 7, 8, 9, 17, and 18.  I am not sure if he will redo the bunkering on his original boss' holes 10, 15 and 16.
