Saunton not far from Painswick.

Played Saunton a couple of weeks ago. Great courses, two to chose from, both superb. It’s about 2 hours from Painswick and is just across the estuary from Royal North Devon with St Enedoc being about another hour beyond that.

Here’s a couple of Pics.

15th green. You’ve got to bump it up.

5th 120 yards but tough to hit. We all hit 6 irons into the teeth of the wind.

Tee shot on 4. Keep it close to the bunkers on the left to get a clear shot at the green. Easier said than done when the wind is whistling in from the left at 30mph.

The 13th is another tough par three. When we played it was characteristically windy and on greens like this you’ve got to keep total control or the ball won’t stop until it finds the buckthorn or a pot bunker.

The approach to 16. This ridge can play havoc unless you’ve entered it into the calculations.

Saunton is no pushover. They’ve been playing major events both amateur and pro for countless years and the course record remains at 4 under par.

Marc.

Thanks for the Saunton pix. I have not played there, but I have seen Saunton show up on the short list of other courses that possibly could host the Open.

As I posted elsewhere, Burham & Berrow (in Burham-on-Sea) is another highly regarded links course that is even closer to  Painswick/Bristol than Saunton, Westward Ho! & St. Endoc.
