Architect's Names

A frivolous thought, but the Morrish retirement thread got me to think: how could an architect's name be associated with golf's terrain, technology, or other elements?

Morrish misspelled as MOORish implying he is an expert on the moors of England.

Donald Steel is against the old (hickories) and new (super, duper, mondo, bondo, plutonium-powered drivers) in clubs and insists on STEEL shafts!

Tillinghast was HASTY in his work (shouldn't this be "18 stakes on a Sunday afternoon" Bendelow?

Anybody see any other weird connections?

Those are all fine answers to Mike's question, though MEAGER ones at best.  Having grown up in the southeast, I feel a very good one would be Earl STONE.  Funny thing about where he did most of his work, there wasn't much ..................stone.

Rocky Roquemore............now there's a guy for some serious blasting and ripping.

Charles Banks.........he did create some pretty steep ones.

Fred Bliss................well, he always seems kinda happy when I've been around him.  But blissful?  I don't know.

The Tufts family..................what else does the game depend on but tufts of grass.

Brent Wadsworth (ok, a builder, not an architect)...........what else does the construction of a course depend on?  WADS of money from developers WORTH much money.

George Cobb..............never did much work near corn fields.

I had Bliss on the list, but removed it after considerable debate with my right brain.

I am sorry to report, however, that I forgot Martin Hawtree, F.W. Hawtree, and F.G. Hawtree.

...and, while looking up this fine family tree, may we all recall Xenophon Hassenplug. For no one wants to have their ball hassenplugged.

Robert Bruce Harris always made me think of Robert the Bruce, wonder if he's a distant relation.  But at least he had the right name for a golf architect, even if my home course doesn't look much like a Scottish links ;D
