Aerial of the Day #302 - 13 Mar 2003
« on: March 13, 2003, 06:59:03 AM »
A little irony here.  This one was originally planned for 5
weeks ago, but got postponed.  Since then, there has been
talk of this course and comparisons to another in the area.

I don't think the clues are very helpful today ...  :-/

It does have a double-dogleg ... and farmland to the left of the course ...

You won't find a nicer "Gem" from this area. There are some trees in that field.  8)

Meetings, lunches, couldn't get on....

Ken has it.  Good work based on little clues.

This course was compared recently on here to a 70's relic course.

Is it the 2nd best public in this metroland area?

Some locals think you'd be a sap for not liking this course.

does the aotd have something to do with absence of color?  (or is that presence of all colors?)  in the name anyway?

Yes, William, haven't heard from you in awhile...

The comparator course is going private.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler got married.  Too bad.  Like I had a
chance.  Her character got needled a few times, but nothing
too bad.

There used to be another course on this site.

Chairman of the Board: "This is, my kind of course..."
(well, area).

Architect with the shortest name?  Co-archie name straight
out of Alliteration School?

Just a few miles from a course that "earned" the privilege to
host a recent Women's Open.  This place has a member who
probably Air-mailed a few greens every now and then...

Finally got it.  Jeeze, I need to go back to AOTD 101.   :)

From my experience, the cabbies in this area need to have these scents hanging on their rear-view mirrors.   >:(

This is Pine Meadow, in Mundelein, IL, designed by Joe Lee
and Rocky Roquemore.  Mundelein is a north side Chicago
suburb.  Pine Meadow is considered by some to be the 2nd
best public in the Chicagoland area after Dubsdread
(ironically designed by the same two people).

The recent thread talked about Chicago-area poster child for
CCFADs Kemper Lakes going private and some compared it
Pine Meadow, which they called a better course for less
money.

Here is the layout:

and several pics:

http://pinemeadowgc.com/history_photos.htm

from the web site:

http://pinemeadowgc.com/

other clues include:

recent thread comparing to 70's relic Kemper Lakes

"trees in that field" =pine meadow

not sure of the "Gem" clue

"metroland" refers to "Chicagoland"

"sap" = pine

"Jamie-Lynn Sigler got married....Her character got needled..."  refers to the actress who plays "Meadow"
Soprano on HBO's series.  And "needle" refers to "pine" tress.

"There used to be another course on this site" was referred to
in the recent thread and can be best explained here:

http://pinemeadowgc.com/history.htm

Chairman of the Board: "This is, my kind of course..."
(well, area). refers to Frank Sinatra and his song "My Kind of
Town", Chicago.

"Architect with the shortest name?" =Joe Lee

"Co-archie name straight out of Alliteration School?" = Rocky Roquemore

"Just a few miles from a course that 'earned' the privilege to
host a recent Women's Open.  This place has a member who
probably Air-mailed a few greens every now and then.."
refers to nearby course the Merit Club, host of 2000 (?) U.S.
Women's Open, where Michael "Air" Jordan is a
member.  "Merit" = "earned"

The "Gem" clue refers to Joe Jemsek, longtime mentor of public golf in Chicagoland.
