Right...is everybody ready? Thus beginneth another edition of GolfClubAtlas Survivor, with a few twists that shall become apparent presently. The goal is to identify the greatest golfing region in the world; after much thought, here are the rules:
There will be two separate divisions of candidates, International and American. The candidates are listed below, with a notable course listed in parentheses after each for representational purposes:

Victorian “Sand Belt”, Australia (Royal Melbourne)
Mornington Peninsula, Australia (National-Moonah)
AMERICAN DIVISION:
Greater Boston, Massachusetts/Rhode Island (The Country Club)
Long Island, New York (Shinnecock Hills)
Westchester County, New York (Winged Foot - West)
Greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania/New Jersey (Pine Valley)
Greater Miami, Florida (Seminole)
North Carolina Sandhills (Pinehurst No. 2)
Northern Michigan (Crystal Downs)
Monterey Peninsula, California (Cypress Point)
Greater San Francisco, California (Olympic Club)
Hawaiian Islands (Kapalua)

One clarification to the above: Pasatiempo counts for BOTH the San Francisco and Monterey Peninsula regions. I figure both have equal claim to it, so rather than cut it in half, both get to share it.
Reminder: depth and breadth of quality is just as important as a region's shining light. Also, remember that the sole qualification we are assessing herein is golf course architecture (and everything that falls under that label). Climate, length of golfing season, friendliness of local people, remotness from civilization, and other such non-golf-related issues should not be taken into account, nor should factors such as "evenness of fairway grass", "average stimpmeter reading", "clubhouse architecture", "range balls stacked in neat pyramids" or anything else along these lines except insofar as it affects the golf course(s) in question.
YOUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR ROUND ONE:
1. Nominate an International region you wish to banish from contention.
2. Nominate an American region you wish to banish from contention.
3. Nominate an American region which is NOT listed above for inclusion. Possible regions for nomination include, but are by no means restricted to, the following:
Greater Columbus, Ohio (Muirfield Village)
Coastal South Carolina (Kiawah Island - Ocean)
Greater Orlando, Florida (World Woods)
Greater Jacksonville, Florida (TPC Sawgrass)
Greater Chicago, Illinois (Chicago GC)
Greater Minneapolis, Minnesota (Hazeltine)
Central Nebraska (Sand Hills)
Greater Phoenix, Arizona (Desert Highlands)
Bandon, Oregon (Pacific Dunes)
Greater Los Angeles, California (Riviera)
We start with 12 International and 10 American regions. At the end of this first round we will have 11 International and 10 American regions (one American region will disappear, another will appear to take its place). Beginning with Round Two, we will proceed to kill off one region in each division per round until we are left with two International regions and one American region; the three survivors will compete against each other in two subsequent rounds.
Entries must be received by noon, EST, on Monday to be valid. And please follow ALL THREE requests, as indicated: nominate two regions for exclusion and one American region for inclusion. Good luck, and may the best golfing region win!

Ok Darren I'll try but I don't think I'm qualified to vote off an international. Perhaps I could team up with an international person who doesn't feel comfortable with knocking anything they haven't seen. So, basically My vote will become our vote in each phase.
I'll start with the one I'm uncomfy with;
1. eliminating N.W. England.(if theres an international who wants to correct me and has never been to the states we'll partner. Reserving the right to change the Intl' elim.)
2. Lose greater Miami.
3. Add New Mexico/west texas (Black Mesa, The Rawls Course)

2. Banish Miami
3. Add greater Phoenix.
The choices will get tougher later...

My Nashville friend corrects a great oversight - yes indeedy, Greater Chicago deserves a place in this... so I want to change my answer there... screw AZ, it won't survive long anyway... Chicago has a strong chance.

I'm postively gushing, and have ordered a new staff sized golf bag with "Personal Friend of Tom Huckaby" inscribed on the side.
For all others, I have a few "Honk if you've hosted Huckaby" bumper stickers left for sale.

The bumper stickers are embarassingly prevalent, though.

1. Mornington Peninsula (never been there, but this is a mercy killing--no way it ever survives vs. the Sandbelt)
2. Hawaii (Aloha means both hello and goodbye!)
3. LA (particularly since the World Atlas of Golf has the Monterey Peninsula located in its suburbs!)

I think you guys are unclear on the concept here.
Isn't the "Survivor" idea this: Leave the weaklings on the island, while you vote OFF the strong ones that threaten YOUR favorite.
In that spirit, I vote to banish Monterey and Fife -- and add Greater Jacksonville!

Having watched every episode of the TV show from the 2nd season forward, I am TOO clear on the concept.
But such strategies don't matter much this early, and one must know one's fellow voters... stay tuned, however....

With Colonial, Dallas National, and DAC along with Preston Trails, Dallas area should rival Chicago.

1. Lose Ayrshire, Scotland (Royal Troon) - Like Adam, I don't know the internationals other than by reputation, but this is probably the last of the areas nominated that I want to visit.
2. Lose greater Miami. (But keep South Beach.)
3. Add greater LA (unless you can streeeetch Columbus to include Pittsburgh - come on, it's an easy drive)
3b. Bannish Huck for adding greater Phoenix. ;D :P

I am a diehard fan of Survivor - that I don't miss, for better or for worse. Tonight from 8-9 you know what I will be doing. I have money on this... hang in there, Burton... ;D
The Bachelor is my wife's show... I look in on that when I'm not dealing with kids or a game isn't on... same for Queer Eye...
So hey, don't blame all this on me!

I grew up in LA, so perhaps familiarity breeds contempt... so the only way I add that is for strategic value for the better part of our state.
As for adding Phoenix, well... that was kind of a lesser of evils thing... until I realized the wisdom of Mike Hendren....

All I want to know is: when do Huck and I get to pair up in a 2 man best ball immunity challenge against Lynn and Moriarity on #16 at CPC?
That does need to happen. We might lose, but we will emerge with our manhood intact... something we certainly won't be able to say for our opponents. ;D

For this exercise, I will assume the identity of Ricky Fairplay (Huck knows what I'm talking about) and immediately offer up my banishment votes to anyone who wants to influence my opt-in vote. Yes, I'm talking alliance here, and I'm looking at you, Chicago guys.
And if there's a reward challenge, my grandmother just passed away. She was a saint.

Elimidate Fife. Poot the olde grey towne out of its misery early.
Don Johnson Miami. Everything looks like Pro Player.
Add South Carolina. Hooters flies there. I'd have picked Bandon if it had been expanded up the coast.

Best listed in U.S. might be North Carolina Sandhills if mythical Carthage Club is included.

Chris, you can vote off any region you have some knowledge about. I'll leave you to determine what "some knowledge" means (i.e. it's a pretty open-ended requirement - just don't cast around blindly).
