At Kington last week conversation turned to next year's BUDA. Hopefully things will have returned to something like normal by then - I guess we have to plan on that assumption.
My suggestion of a BUDA based around Cavendish and the town of Buxton seemed to be well received, and if a concencus developed for that I would be delighted to organise it, with the help of Jayne who is now a committed BUDA babe.
36 holes on a Saturday is always going to be a problem at members' clubs in this area - Saturday is sacred as Competition Day and tees are always rammed until around 2pm. My thoughts then, are for 18 holes at Cavendish on a Saturday afternoon, 36 holes on Sunday at another local course of architectural interest, culminating in 36 holes at Cavendish on the Monday.
Opportunities for pre and post BUDA golf abound, with the Southport area being less than two hours away, heathland classics such as Delamere Forest and Hollinwell an hour or so distant, and a myriad of other interesting courses within easy reach.
Buxton is a lovely town in which to spend a few days, with attractions ranging from the most genteel imaginable to hardcore debauchery. Among the club's members are the proprietors of an excellent local hotel, various B&Bs and some lovely self catering holiday apartments in the centre of town. I can look into special deals.

Manchester Airport is an easy 45 minute journey through breathtaking scenery.
I'm sure there will be other suggestions but there's my pitch.
I'd be interested in peoples' thoughts.

Very fine! Cavendish is a proper Buda venue. I am in if dates work.

Duncan,
I was sorry to miss Buda this year and hope we can have something like a return to normal for next year?
As will no doubt have been discussed, Buda is very much of a "build it and they will come" nature, so if you are keen to organise and no one offers an alternative, its fine by me, especially at Cavendish! As I live relatively close to Cavendish I'd be more than happy to help you with organising this if that helps?
A couple of points, firstly while a weekend does tend to make things easier it can be a pain getting decent tee times and so a mid week or part weekend Buda isnt out of the question. Secondly I just did a quick exercise regarding other decent courses in the area which people may want to play either pre or post Buda, or even becoming the second course at Buda (more caveats than I can list as to whether some of these are suitable or not at this time) and this came out as follows:
- Beau Desert, Delamere Forest, Lindrick and Hollinwell, all about 40 miles or 1 hr 15 mins drive.
- Reddish Vale and JCB, both about 20something miles and 50 mins drive, according to Google Maps
Just to give an idea of possible driving between venues...
Also a personal request that we avoid the weekend of Sat 25 to Tue 28 Sept as I've another golf event then.
Cheers,
James

I’d be up for an early September BUDA in Cavendish. A few courses around there that I haven’t seen and really wish to.
Plus Buxton would be a nice base I guess?

Please sign me up for the hardcore debauchery. Might play some golf too.

This seems to be gaining momentum.
Cavendish currently have a completely free schedule on Sunday 5th September 2021. Members tend not to play on Sundays so booking 36 holes will not be a problem. This would not be the case at other clubs which get a lot of Sunday morning member play.
At that time in early September daylight extends until 8pm. Three weeks later sunset is almost an hour earlier. As one of the great joys of Cavendish is sitting on the west facing terrace overlooking the 18th green nursing a drink as the sun sets behind the hills I would suggest that this would be the perfect weekend.
Any objections to me filling in the schedule around this date?
-
Jack Weiner and I already have credits to play Birkdale and both Formby courses so that sounds great.
-
Sounds good. Son and heir and I would like to be included.

I'd like to make a return to BUDA, but Sept 6 doesn't work for me. It'd have to be either Aug 29th or Sept 19th weekends to work for me.
-
Do we really feel like Buda happened at Kington/Welshpool?
I can understand some desire to go to a new place in 2021, but how many of us signed up for Kington actually made it there? If we don't do Buda at Kington next year, fine, but it should be on the radar sooner rather than later IMO.
This post is no knock on Cavenish - it's a great choice. But Kington is special, and I'm all for more of us seeing it.
-
John,
I too thought that a proper BUDA at Kington next year was the obvious way forward. However, Sean has made it clear that he is not interested in repeating the task of organising it. That must be respected.
You will have noticed how quick Sean was in endorsing the idea of a Cavendish BUDA!
I would hope that a return to Kington can happen sooner rather than later.
-
Sounds good to me.
Will leave it to others to say if Labor(sp?) Day 9/6/21 (so wrong 😈) is a problem.
Two good reasons for basing it over a weekend.
Will allow those suffering from a curse called work to attend (and it was great to see some young blood this year)
For those touring from overseas its always hardest to get weekend tee times. Makes it easy to plan a trip if BUDA sorts that. I feel we should make it easier for those who travel the furthest to play.
One other date to consider avoiding. Is last weekend in September. Ryder Cup.
Good luck happy to help if I can.

Cavendish to Kington 2'45", I'm up for a pre or post Buda meet for multiple rounds. Its that good.

Somebody else can organize Kington for Buda. I am happy to go there as well.

Count me in for this Buda, where ever it is played. My plan is to spend the summer in North Berwick from June through September, so I’ll be up for anything! Cavendish & Reddish Vale seems a great combo.
And, yes Spangles, it is Labor Day... without the “u”. ;D

To the extent that the "young blood" shared some of my genes, then work wasn't an issue this year, except for the one who didn't make it. But for the moment, count me and Finlay and Gregor in. I'm sure they'd be up for rather more debauchery than Kington had to offer....
-
I missed last year with a bad neck and this year, hopeful for 2021. With the development of a vaccine it look more likely that travel across will once again be possible. Hoping for an International BUDA.
-
I would support Cavendish as a venue and plan to attend. Only half an hour from Chatsworth which is one of the most beautiful “houses” you will ever see. I like the idea of heading to a county most travellers (golfers or not) will never reach - yet still pretty accessible.

I can't do 11/12th or 18th/19th otherwise I'd definitely love to do a Cavendish BUDA. Good luck organising.

Schedule it and I will come if we are allowed to travel.

I will be there but I will pass the captaincy on to someone else.
-
Duncan: Please add Chris Handy - he played in the last Buda and would very much like to join the group again. BTW: He is from Birmingham, UK
-
After covid ruined my planes to join this year's BUDA, I'm certainly planning to be there in 2021! Wherever it is... Cavendish sounds great!
-
If there’s room I’d love to make my BUDA debut in 2021

I say, bloody decent of them to hold off the opening, waiting for GCA to arrive:

The Crescent would make an ideal base for the more well-heeled Pests! It looks absolutely beautiful!

After consulting with various senior Pests with greater experience of these things than myself I have settled on the following itinerary;
Sunday September 5th 2021 36 holes Cavendish Golf Club (MacKenzie) with light lunch and dinner
Monday September 6th 2021 36 holes Reddish Vale Golf Club (MacKenzie) with light lunch
Tuesday September 7th 2021 18 holes Cavendish Golf Club (MacKenzie) with light lunch
Total price for all of the above (but no alcohol) - £160 per head
Cavendish is located in the lovely spa town of Buxton which will form the base for the event. There are ample boarding opportunities ranging from humble B&Bs to a newly opened 5 star hotel in the renovated Georgian Crescent.

Reddish Vale is an easy 45 minute drive from Buxton through spectacular countryside so there is no need to move from base camp. Manchester International Airport is also only 45 minutes away.
In addition to the above there is the opportunity to play Cavendish on the afternoon of Saturday 5th September on the original MacKenzie routing which was altered to the current sequence soon after the course opened for play. A green fee of £25 will apply plus an optional £5 if you want to take part in the club competition.
I will start a new thread in the next few weeks detailing payment details etc. Please indicate your interest here.
-
Congrats on taking on all opinions and coming up with a superb line up.
I'm in for all of it.
Duncan I can see this being oversubscribed. You've asked for expressions of interest here it might be helpful to state what date you will start the new thread so people can plan without having to look in everyday. Also with you mentioned a hotel close to the club? With the dinner at the club being within walking distance might be ideal.
Brilliant news
-
Interest here.

Duncan
Well done in organising and pleased to say those dates work for me, so please count me in.
Obviously a lot of choice on accommodation but it would be great if most of us could base ourselves in one or two hotels rather than being spread out. Any suggestions for what the main hotel(s) might be ?
Niall

Duncan,
Sunday is the 5th of September on my calendar. I assume you are doing Sunday to Tuesday and not the 6th to the 8th.
Sadly these dates are probably not going to work for me.
Hopefully COVID will let this BUDA come to fruition for you.
-
Duncan,
If you can take part-bookings, count me in for the full Sunday & Monday. Will likely fly home that night from Manchester Airport and miss the final 18 at Cavendish.
Thanks,
Ally
-
Well done Dunc.
I too would probably be a part timer....Saturday and AM Sunday. Although there is a good chance I will be in the US for the Labor Day period....6 September.
Ciao
-
Count me, Conrad and 2 or three of my offspring as in.
-
Duncan,
I'd like a second chance at the 18th at Reddish Vale. Though the hike through cool sunshine, wind, rain, & warm sunshine conditions were quite an experience that day, getting up to the 18th green was an adventure onto itself... i must redeem myself.
May be traveling next year, just retired...
What's limit on attendees?
-
Yes!
-
Jack Weiner and I are in as well as another friend Jack Branyan if we can have three.
-
Having played Cavendish in 2015 on my way to Notts, I would very much like to return. And the name of Reddish Vale has always struck me as among the most intriguing of all course designations. So, if I feel I can travel and there's room I'd very much to participate.
-
What's limit on attendees?
Initially 24. Extendable to 36 if demand proves high.
The beauty of playing it Sunday - Tuesday is that demand for tee times from members is very low. It would be more problematic to add tee times at the back end of the week.
Congrats on your retirement Steve. Look forward to seeing you again!
-
I'm definitely interested, and hope to play all 5 rounds.
-
I’m definitely interested presuming I’m back over here next year.

Sounding good.
Son and heir and I are both keen to be involved.

I’d love to make my debut BUDA appearance if there’s a space available Duncan.
-
Duncan - as stated before, I’m all in... including the Sat warm up round with the original routing. Thanks for pulling this together!!!
-
I have good memories of an early evening round with Duncan at Reddish Vale, then following his recommendation the next day, having a delightful round at scenic Cavendish. I’d very much like to return.
-
Interested, would be a first time Pest.
-
It's on my calendar. Hopefully travel restrictions will be a distant memory by then.
-
Duncan,
I have been foiled the past 2 BUDAS. Count me in for this one.
-
I'm in!

In!

Ditto. That is, IN, Covid permitting.

Duncan,
Count me in.

Jack Weiner is joined by another Jack from Rolling Green, Jack Branyan.
Here is our schedule pre/post Buda. We have room for one more if any are interested.
September 1. Hillside 1340
2. Birkdale 1340
3. Wallasey 1058
4. Lytham 800 Formby Ladies. 1430
8. Liverpool 1120
9. Formby 1424
We want to add West Lancs
We welcome one more any day.
-
The bunkers at Cavendish are in the midst of being re-designed / re-built as we speak.
What scale of work will be finished by BUDA, Duncan?
-
Duncan, I'm in if there is room and I can get there without a quarantine... and if I am allowed back in after visiting Adam Lawrence previously that year... #interpol

Lytham and Formby Ladies sounds like a great day. There’s something particularly appealing to me about that combination - not that any blend of that group of courses would be a bad way to spend a day.
-
In. Hope the vaccine is available by then.
