March 20th and 21st
Opening for 20 18 14 8 Full (overbooked actually but some may drop and if not we'll figure it out)
Charity: Angel Flights South Central
http://www.angelflightsc.org/ (http://www.angelflightsc.org/)
Al & Dianna Stanger own WP. Dianna is an aviation enthusiast and she has been making Angel Flights since 2001. She is the BOD Chairman for Angel Flights South Central. Houston has some of the finest cancer care in the world and Angel Flights South Central transports needy patients from remote areas of the central US to care centers in Houston and Dallas.
Donation recommended is minimum of $100- donations are tax deductible - don't donate yet as I will get the tax info and I want to be sure Dianna gets credit as not only does she donate her time and her aircraft, she also has a fund raising requirement and we are going to help her with that.
Here is some reading about Dianna

Details of the tourney itself to follow, but it will be much like last year. We appreciate that people want to see the course, but most of all we want to host a competitive golf event as we believe that the actual playing of a match against an opponent is the soul of the game and hopefully WP Golf Course can add to the enjoyment of the match.
I'll be posting about hotel info in the next week or so.
Golf is free, but we will be asking for $100 (in addition to donation) to defer the cost of a Sunday night dinner at our restaurant in Port Lavaca, http://shellfishdining.com/site/ (http://shellfishdining.com/site/), and Monday cook out at the course
We also ask that while in town our visitors support the Shellfish Restaurant.
Summary
$100 minimum donation to Angel Flights, $100 to Don Mahaffey/Wolf Point Ranch to defer cost of dinner (its a nice dinner) and lunch on Monday, plus waters, other drinks out on course both days.
Course opens for play 10am Sunday for causal rounds, play until dark.
Tournament play on Monday, 36 holes
No carts available for players
Maps, tournament info to follow
Thanks, Don

I would also like to sign up, and just expressed my interest in the Lounge.
What are the possible suggestions for Tuesday morning golf?
Cheers.

A few requests,
1. If you have questions, ask them here, out in the open, so the answer may help someone else.
2. If you need to send me a personal message or email, please use your full name. I'm getting emails from people I don't have in my contacts, using only a first name, and I'm not sure who is contacting me.
3. Express your interest in attending here, not on PM or email.
Also, I'll need your handicap and your home town.
Thx, Don
-
Don,
I am interested in attending this fine event for a great cause at a wonderful venue.
I live in Houston, and my handicap is officially a 2.3.
Looking forward to it!

Assuming the response of hometown and handicap is to be posted here, call me Santa Cruz and 10.7 at the moment.
This would be a wonderful opportunity to do well by doing good. Cheers.

This is a tremendous opportunity for people to see a top 10 modern course. I am really surprised that spots are still available. It's worth a special effort to attend, and you never know if another chance will present itself.
Don,
Thanks for doing this. I know it's an effort for you to get approval and then to organize the event. Wish I could make it.
-
I'm in the same boat as a few others - logistics due to a few prior commitments won't allow me to make this, but I spent a few hours trying to figure out if there was a way to pull it off.
Count me in in advance if there's a next time.
-
Don - I'd love to come if my schedule allows. I will be in touch closer to the date.
-
Don,
I'd love to attend from The Woodlands, HI=10.8, but I'm not sure i can or should do 36 on the Monday, due to shoulder still recovering from RC+ surgery.
Any options for half-marathoners?
-
Aargghh! This timing could not possibly be worse. Family and I will be on spring break that week. Any easy way to get from Cancun to Wolf Point for a day trip? ;D
Sure Dave,
Anything in this world can be had for the right price!! :)

Last year the weather was so crappy that the afternoon alternate shot competition was seven teams in one 14-some, and lasted 7 holes.
It was a great time last year but hopefully the weather is better this year...it was 40 degrees with a misty rain falling and 2-3 club wind blowing the entire time. I'm pretty hardy when it comes to weather but that was the coldest I've been on a golf course in a long long time...and it was at one of the southernmost areas in the continental US...

Don,
I think I've figured out flights from Indianapolis. Would you have room for one more? Or put me on the waiting list?
-
This looks like a phenomenal outing Don. Unfortunately I will be taking Junior on a college tour... :-\
-
Just a reminder that I need email addresses and hometown from everyone

We are trying to solidify our entries and there are a number of folks who signed up at the onset but have not been heard from since. If you are on the basecamp site, and have yet to give me handicap and hometown, please do so ASAP. If you signed on early and are not yet on basecamp, it probably means you have not PM with your email. Please do so now. I have a number of people who have expressed interest and we need to firm up entries. Thx, Don.
-
Don, thanks for putting this show on. I had really high expectations for Wolf Point and you exceeded them. The event was a blast and I really appreciate Al and Diana letting us golf junkies out on their course. I am sorry I missed you when we left, but our 8some took awhile to finally get back in. I wish I could have stayed and played some more.
All the best.
-
Thanks for an awesome event, Don. I did not want to leave on Monday even as daylight ran out. Such an amazing place, and the work you, Mike and you crew have done there is truly spectacular. A very special place indeed, even with all the dubious characters around ;)
-
Don, THANKS does not begin to express my appreciation for including me in this event. You and Mike really did an outstanding job and showed a bunch of "golf nuts" a really good time both with the golf and the FOOD!! Hope to do it again soon!

For those of you who weren't able to stick around, attached is a small excerpt from the Port Lavaca Sun Times Herald.
An unpressedented tie lead to a shoeless one hole sudden death playoff between the WEST team's Captain Alex Miller, and the EAST team's Co-Honarary Executive Vice Captain Josh Tarble. A mutually agreed upon 220 yard into the wind par 3.2 from the 8th tee box to the 18th green would be the stage for one the the biggest upsets in recent sports history. Man vs Man. East vs West. 2 iron vs. Heaven wood. The tension in the air was palpable. The gallery was shocked into silence as both players landed short, just a belly putter's length apart. What was once a brute test of strength was now turned into a "chipping contest". Co-Honarary Execute Vice Captain Josh Tarble, a natural crowd pleaser, was first to play and opted to intentionally stop his ball 17 feet left of the pin in order to set up what he refers to as a "more dramatic" victory. The pressure was on. Alex miller hit what to what would appear to the average spectator as a "great shot" to about 4 feet, however the average spectator would be unaware of the fact that Alex Miller was making 93% of putts between 5 and 12 feet and had not yet converted a 4 footer since Sunday's practice round. Playing first once again again, Josh Tarble applied the pressure by lagging his 17 footer to just outside the 3 foot mark. Since Alex miller was, what his caddy referred as, "too close to the hole" another playoff hole seemed inevitable. With the fate of the West team in his hands Alex Miller approached his putt and let it rip. The gallery erupted as the putt fell dead center. It was over. The West team had won the day.
Note: West team captain is Alex Miller is currently being investigated for his potential illegal use of flip flops to shield his feet from oyster shells located at either end of the walking bridge.

Thanks to Don and Mike for throwing a spectacular event!
-
You left out the part about Alex and John shotgunning multiple beers in honor of Josh's 30th Bday prior to well described playoff. Oyster shells hard on those soft Cali feet.
-
What a write-up! Let's call it "The Greatest Game Ever Played part Deux"
Thank you to everyone for a fantastic couple of days.
-
THANK YOU(!) Mike Nuzzo, Don Mahaffey and the owners of Wolf Point for having us out for a couple of days to enjoy their incredibly fun golf course. I ended up getting ridiculously sunburned but I'm still smiling thinking of the golf and the cast of characters that were assembled in Port Lavaca.

Great stuff.. If there's a repeat next year, I won't be missing it.

Not sure who lost this, but as a logo ball collector, I was extremely grateful to find this near perfect gem off the 3rd fairway.
