I thought this was a fascinating time lapse look into the construction of one of the new eco bunkers at #16 at Seccesion.
This is one of many such bunkers currently being constructed by Marl Mitchell who has turned Seccesion into something even more special in his 18 months at the club.
First it was ne green surfaces, then changing the mow patterns on the fairways to get closer to Mr Devlins original vision for the cours and now these marvelous looking sod faced eco bunkers
enjoy.

Thanks for posting that. I'll never view a sod walled bunker the same again. That is an enormous amount of work!
-
sorry, what's an "eco bunker"?
-
Interesting video, thanks Michael.

Thanks for highlighting.
I believe that Southerndown in South Wales have adopted this approach. Anyone recently been there/seen the work or have any feedback?

Here is a link to their website, which actually has the aforementioned green on its frontpage.

Thanks. So this is high-end artificial turf/sod?
-
I believe that is correct.
Or I am told some times real grass with fibre added for durability, like they have at English football grounds/pitches.
-
Why didn't they strip the grass on the existing bunker? They just slapped it on to the outside of a bunker that looked pretty good to me, and made it narrower and deeper.
Time lapse videos of revetting are pretty cool. The go-pro attached to the backhoe boom redoing hell bunker was well done too.

Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound is using the same company and technique. Bobby Weed and Lepanto Golf are doing a complete renovation.
As I understand it, the "turf" pieces are actually old, used astroturf from fields in Europe. They do not break down like sodded edges and the pliability and workability is easier that sod.

Does EcoBunker have any idea of the useful life for the Ecotraps? How does it compare to a traditionally constructed sod stacked bunker?
-
I've been told by several sources that Eco Turf will last significantly longer than turf.
