Title: Is he serious?
Post by: Jon McSweeny on March 28, 2014, 07:36:48 PM
All apologies to the hosts if this improper and should be removed, but I thought I might throw it out there.

I am prepping for an SCGA event (it's a Net event, don't be too impressed) in the next couple of weeks and have a round scheduled for Sunday at 7:20. Its looking like I will have at least one, and possibly three, spaces open for Sunday.

If anyone has any interest in playing this perennial GCA favorite, I would love to have you help search through the trees and tell me its OK after every three putt join me on Sunday. Though the course was punched just over two weeks ago, the greens are fine and the rest of the course is that deep, dark green that seems to attract GCAers the way a 7400 yard set of tee boxes attracts 13 handicappers.

All kidding aside, the course is in great shape and the green fees are reduced for the time being. If anyone wants to join me, let me know. I won't even tell anyone if you skip the ninth hole.

Gotta love that first tee shot on the Babe from the back tees. Where? Did they ever fix the golf cable car lifts? Next time I am in SoCal I will have to join you for a round there.

Great invitation!  But one that reminds me that I need to make a dentist's appointment.  At 7:20 am on Sunday.   Enjoy the round.

David,

Played Industry Hills many times when I lived in LA. In fact, it was the first place I played when I moved out there. Big oil industry hang out before the crowd moved to Pelican Hill which definitely had a better oxygen supply!

Recall actually enjoying the Babe more than the Ike, but neither were as good as the library.

Tim, I've played both courses a number of times as well, when I first moved to L.A. and the pickings were slim.   I am not sure I have a preference as to the two, and to be honest (except for remembering some incredibly tight holes on the Babe) I my mind might even confuse them.  My main memory is the color green Jon mentioned and of extremely slow play.  I am pretty sure I used to walk those courses, but that seems crazy now that I think of the terrain.

Really I just wanted to respond to Jon's invitation, which I found quite funny and thought it captured my feelings for the place perfectly.

David,

Can't say I have any desire to go back. When I do play in LA I prefer Rec Park, close to where I used to live in Belmont Shore area of Long Beach.

Jon,

I'm prepping for the same event, but I decided I'd go play Rustic over playing IH. Screw prep - I want to play rustic again and we're already playing IH on the 7th and 8th. But have fun on Sunday :)
