...per a tweet from Steve Elling, who covers golf for CBSSports.com.
Heck of a week for The Donald.

Announcement likely timed for today since The Donald is holding a press conference at Doral and he let the news slip in his curious interview with SI's Gary Van Sickle last week:
I covered the LPGA event that was (at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach ) several times. During the PGA at Baltusrol, I played your course in Bedminster.
We just got the Women's U.S. Open at that one, which is phenomenal. [Editor's Note: USGA representatives say nothing is official, yet.] The one in Florida is great. ...

Wow. The Donald is doing very well in the golf industry as of late! I will have to cross the Delaware this year to see it.

No surprise: Donald Trump said to have threatened USGA with lawsuit if it moved women's Open.

Massive ratings drop for the event.

The overnight rating for Fox was 0.56, or 790,000 homes, for the 5-hour show. The John Deere Classic (3 hours) on CBS drew a 1.11 rating, or 1.67 million homes, according to Nielsen. That's not great either, but decent enough in the post-Woods era on a week before a major.
When you have five or fewer Americans in the top 20 at the start of the show, and the Olympic rings aren't on display, there will be a tune-out on an American network, no matter how interesting the golf. Or any other sport.

Ratings small. Sad.
