Title: 2013 - GCA Paradise? (Or at least as good as it gets?)
Post by: Frank Sullivan on August 31, 2010, 05:17:24 AM
I apologize if this has already been posted (in this detail), but 2013 is shaping up to be a great summer for us GCA'er's...here is a list of the confirmed tourneys/venues thus far:

US Open - Merion (I can't wait!...seriously)
US Women's Open - Sebonack
US AM - The Country Club (Mass.)
Walker Cup - NGLA (OK, now I am jittery)
British Open - Muirfield (Other than TOC, the best?)
PGA - Oak Hill
President's Cup - Muirfield Village

Of course, there are many years with incredible line-ups, but 3 years from now seems "special"....agree?  ;D

Frank,
Great observation.  How did I not know about NGLA?  That's my #1 course to see and to be able to watch the Walker Cup there is a rare treat.

That certainly makes the mouth water.  I knew about Merion and Muirfield but the other courses are every bit as impressive.  Where is the Masters being held that year?  ;)

Thanks for the heads up Frank.

US Masters has some pretty fair architecture too.

After seeing how the Walker Cuppers handled Chicago and Royal County Down (and Merion only a bit on TV  :'( ), I am really curious about what they will do to NGLA.

2013 really will be a great year for watching golf played on great GCA. I'm already planning on being out in Boston for the US Am at TCC that August.

What a great lineup!!!

Walker Cup at NGLA - How early do tickets go on sale??   ;)  Definitely can't miss an opportunity to see NGLA for the first time.

That's a strong line up and add the U. S. Senior Amateur at Wade Hampton, Tom Fazio's best course.  I agree, it's going to be a fantastic year.

Simon and David,

Check out the thread on "The Evident Faces of Augusta."  They've hired six new architects for redesigns, renovations, tucks, trims and sculpting.  One of the architects is dead, one has not yet been born, and one other designs bridges.

I was under the impression that no tickets were needed for the Walker Cup since attendance is usually so low as it is a very low interest event outside those with huge interest in golf. Am I correct in this understanding?

I have been salivating about 2013 for two years now. It will be a very special summer traveling with my son who just loved the Walker Cup experience at Merion last year.

2013 might be a good excuse for a return trip to the US......otherwise I will be glued to the TV set

Kevin,
Come on up for the Walker Cup at NGLA. You stand right next to the golfers and see how they interface with some of the best golf architecture in the world. It is miles better than being stuck behind the ropes at the US Open.

Who says all those years of harping and moaning about the lack of quality architecture on display, for many championships, had no affect?

Ed

I had some damn good vision last year of amateurs trying to do that in bold above  ;D

Whilst I'd love to see the pro's at Merion - I think the crowds will make it tough. The Walker Cup at NGLA should be amazing.

I'd forgotten that was the same year, Ben. Good pick-up.

I might need to save my Aussie Pesos for a bit of a trip in 2013!

I've never been to a USGA tournament before, amateur or professional.  This sounds like an amazing experience no matter what course you are on, but NGLA....ridiculous!!   ;D

BRITSH AMATEUR AT DEAL IN 2013.

Who even cares about the others?

Also, I heard the Masters will be at Augusta that year.  I'm pumped...

Wrong, you order from the USGA (R&A in GB&I years) and the reason attendance is relatively low is the tickets are limited.

It's a great event, and that policy is part of the reason.  No gallery ropes, just marshals holding up portable ropes.

The same is true for the US Am. No ropes are a wonderful thing.

Thanks Bill...do you know how early you can order for 2013, and what the process is?

Royal Cinque Ports and The Country Club both last held the Amateur in 1982, nice little historical link.
