Are you doing any hole by hole sponsorship? (A donor pays x and they get a placard on a tee box)
Title: Re: June 23 Bob Labbance Fund Raiser Sign Up / Donations
Post by: Brad Klein on April 23, 2008, 08:55:31 AM
Good idea, but nope, it's not the sort of thing we'd bring up with Ekwanok. It'll be low impact and quiet. We'd gladly accept direct donations, however.

Better yet: Pioppi and I will wear NASCAR-like corporate logo badges/stickers on our caddie bibs. So you can donate that way. Or just ante up our $1,000 fee (to be donated in full, of course) and sponsor a looper for a day.

Thanks for the consideration.

Lester,

Just contact me or Tony Pioppi (see announcement for details). Donations via check are also accepted:

Labbance Family Fund
P.O. Box 53
Bloomfield, Ct. 06002

Jerry, our intent right now is to focus on the live auction, but if we can work out an appropriate bidding mechanism, we'll try to open it up to non-attendees via a reserve bid system or separate internet site -- about which I am technically clueless.

Jason, thanks for your kind donation.

John Kavanaugh, since I can't IM you here, please send that certificate for Norwood Hills, as we already have a good bid on it.

I hope to send it out tomorrow.  My secretary went took off Friday and Monday for Talladega then called me this morning needing off because her Dad found a kidney for an emergency transplant.  I wish I could make this stuff up.  I talked to the pro at Norwood and the rounds will have to be played with me...sorry.

That will either drive the price through the roof or render it worthless. It's a toss up. Can't wait to find out.

Has there been any progress on this? I cannot attend, but I know several golfers would love to support the cause.

We have 63 registrants, considerable auction prizes, still some room for folks to sign up and plenty of room for donors to mail checks directly to:

Labbance Family Fund
P.O. Box 53
Bloomfield, Ct. 06002

I'll soon post the latest updated auction items list -- but how can you resist Donald Ross bobble-head dolls (courtesy of the ASGCA)?

Attendees will have priority access to the live auction on June 23. Any items not meeting the prescribed baseline price will revert to public auction on open Website via an online service we've contracted called www.cMarket.com. That bidding will start Monday, June 23, 7 p.m. and conclude on July 1.

Doug, you did, but I haven't been able to process the "certificates" yet. Please just email them to me-- almost anything goes, just set out terms, conditions, how many players, and I'll add that to the lot -- sorry.

Given what we're paying for staff and secretarial support it's a wonder anything gets done. But that's what happens when 98% of the money raised is donated to the cause and not to the office staff.

Hey! No problem. Just wanted to make sure my donation was in there. I appreciate all you and Tony, and others I am sure, are doing to help the Labbance family.
All other GCAers should take note and participate helping one of our community...by buying something. Some pretty cool opportunities on that list!

Mike:

It's really unbelievable how difficult it is to find good help. No matter how much yelling and cursing I do the efficiency does not improve. I don't know what to say. I didn't want to do this but I think we're going to have to start flogging people.

Was up in Vermont to see Bob today and his spirits are wonderful. He will be attending the fund raiser. If that day you have an trouble figuring out who he is, Bob will be the guy in the wheelchair drinking 28-year-old single malt.

-Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, Pa.
Three players, w/ lunch and architect Rob Walton
Value: $1,000

Claiming Rob Walton is the architect of Oakmont could set off a firestorm to make the Merion threads look quite tame. :)

In all seriousness, I'll echo John Kavanaugh's question: Is there a way for non-participants to bid?

The event at a club in west central Vermont which I cannot name under penalty of an excruciating death went extremely well and we raised lots of money for Bob and his family. Although 3 inches of rain fell in the 24 hours leading to the event, Ted Maddocks and his staff did a wonderful job preparing the course and head golf professional John Lombardy, Jr., and his staff were flawless in handling the 70-plus cast of characters who attended.

Not all auction items were sold and there will be information soon about an online auction of which all the proceeds will go to Bob and his family.

Thanks to everyone who participated, donated or assisted in the event.

I just heard from Bob via email...He thanks us all for the birthday wishes (tomorrow, I believe).  To allow us access to his perspective, he reports that use of his arms and hands is completely gone and that breathing is compromised.  If you have the time, you can send him your birthday wishes at blabbance@aol.com.  I am certain that he would be most appreciative and would have his spirits lifted.
