I took a jab at Firestone in another post
for those of you who have actually played it, how good/bad is it?...is it Medinah-like?
all I've read about it isn't great..I think Jack has even criticized it..and he won a bunch of events there

too many straight, tree-lined holes

The course has stood the test of time better than the tires.

I played there for the first time about five or six years ago, and all I can remember thinking was "This course is as long as I will ever play." I believe for many years it was considered brutally long.
However, when I went back there last summer and played, I thought the course wasn't long enough. New clubs and balls? Most likely...there are a lot of trees though.

Yes, Firestone has a lot of trees.

There is nothing wrong with Firestone, in my mind. I thought it was challenging and fun to play a few times. If I had my druthers though, I would spend most of my time on the more interesting and what I thought tougher Firestone North course. A straight forward hole does not necessarily make it a bad one, it just doesn't make it an unforgettable golfing experience. The range is fabulous though!

It's a beautiful parkland course but it's one long 4 after another -- it's a Tour course- enough said.
Play the North Course. It's much more interesting -- a lot of water.
-
To me, it is an example of "Dances with Wolves" architecture. It is so looooong that after about 3/4 through you just hope you stay awake for the ending.

Long....

I remember the course as well being long, long, long,.......
There was a plaque in the locker room with the course record being 61 by Jose Maria O. (now equalled by Tiger).
Just couldn't believe that score on a course so long......
