Haste makes waste.  The last line was directed to Jlyon, not RJ.  Wow, too much coffee

I had the pleasure of playing Whistling Straights on June 10th.  Rain, cold, & a little bit of lighting! The fescue on the fairways seems to be doing fine except in the collection areas(balls & water). The talented greens crew recognize the problem. They are solving it by aggressively top dressing, overseeding, and soding some collection areas. Fine fescue does not do well with "wet feet". Contrary to what most people have been led to beleive, the sand that was imported to the site was mostly used to create the shapes framing the hole and not to cap the fairways.  Hence heavy native soils. Add a little moisture, the hard winters, and a grass type that creeps slower than the four ball in front of me, you could have a problem. In this case the problem has been identified. The resort agronomist and superintendent are working to remedy the situation.  The PGA need not worry.  The fine fescue will be thriving come Aug. 04.
