Ballybunion Cashen #4. A short par 4 from a very high tee.

Thanks for posting all these pics - they are fantastic.

And it's been so long since I've played the Cashen (1987!), that it's all faded from memory.. can you give a little description of this hole?  That is, how far is it to carry the fairway bunkers, how far to the bunker near the green on the left, etc.  I'm trying to get a handle on what's involved in playing this hole... It is so freakin' beautiful, well... I am hoping the play lives up to the beauty.  Is the green driveable?  Does the green fall away as it appears to?

Thanks!

The hole is about 350 yards. The fairway bunkers are only about 200 yards to clear from a high tee, but the wind in your face can make them a factor.
The hole is driveable, but rarely driven. The entrance narrows and rises a bit, and can feed a very long drive into the left collecting bunker.
The green has a pronounced double swell in the interior. It is difficult to get even a wedge close from the wrong angle. The swell will send balls towards the edges, especially the back.
A ball can be bounced through the neck, but the tee shot must be placed properly either right or left to open up the left or right sides of the green for this type of shot.
A steep shot that lands just beyond the right bunker, which is cut into a sloping ledge several feet above the green, is perhaps the best way to get onto the front right part of the green (which is not visible in the picture.) A ball that lands on this part of the green almost always hurries off the back right.
 All putts break.

Most people hate the Cashen Course, but I am in the minority who think it is beautiful and awesome from a scenic point of view. I am not talking about shot values as I only played it once.

It is very difficult to walk with sidehill and downhill lies if you miss the greens, but the scale is so large, the dunes are the biggest of any I have ever played.

It is definitely worth playing even if someone touts you off it.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

The farmland in the background looks to be perfect for "Kingsbarn II"  ;)

Is that Mary Beasly's 19th hole in the background?

Mary Beasley's can almost be seen from this tee if you turned around and looked inland. That farmland is actually across the Cashen River where it empties into the ocean.
