From One Brad to another:
I second Dan's comments as to the new qualities of Hanover CC after the renovation. I attended a Nike golf camp over the old course 7 or 8 years ago, and it was under 6000 yards and par 69. Now, it is near 6500, par 71. The course was a bit outdated, but had some holes that were very "sporty", namely the crossing holes, and the 13th, from an elevated tee (over 100 ft.) to a sunken green in a hollow, protected by a leaning tree. The flagstick was about 20 ft. tall so it could be seen when it was behind and below the tree!
The new course is a bit more challenging, and will no doubt attract more college tournament play. All of the greens and most of the bunkers were redone, and are more interesting than they were. The course took out the holes Dan mentioned, but added a new green location for hole 6 (now a dogleg, used to be straight) and hole 15 (100 yards longer), and added new holes at 11 and 12, 16 and 17. The best of the new holes in my opinion is the par three 12th, with a wildly contoured green complex, and a tee from which you can see the Conn. River.
However, if you ask me, the most fun i've had at Hanover CC is playing the four practice holes across the street from the 16th tee from the original Hanover Course around 1900. They crisscross over some interesting rolling land, and the place is usually deserted. They even have what they call the "yale" bunker to practice for the tournament in New Haven, a 20-ft deep monster fronting one of the greens.
