Two great quotes from shack’s new book
« on: April 05, 2003, 06:51:34 AM »
“Designing and constructing a golf course is an evolutionary process.  It is a process of staring with an idea, a concept, and then adapting to the changes that occur to that concept in the field”. –Bill Coore, ASGCA

“Time.” – Ben Crenshaw’s response whenever asked what leads to interesting course design

Shackelford has always been right on the money with his architectural analysis and the fact that Pat Mucci appears to disagree with him about 98% of the time only serves to prove that Pat Mucci is right only approximatly 2% of the time.  >:)

Just started reading it.  So far my favorite quote:

"Foxhunting: the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable."

It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Lynn;

I haven't read the book but if you want an Oscar Wilde quote that may not be in the book but certainly should be because it would fit nicely into Geoff's thinking on architecture--and it also might be one of Oscar Wilde's best.

"I can resist anything except temptation."

TEPaul,

If there are any flaws in my positions, I wish you would point them out.

Are you saying that Geoff, like you, is unequivically correct 98 % of the time ???

"TEPaul,

Pat:

You wish I would point out the flaws in your positions, do you? Well, what do you think I've been doing almost everyday on here for the last three years? Can I help it if you refuse to see the light?

"Are you saying that Geoff, like you, is unequivically correct 98 % of the time?"

You finally got it! Congratulations!   ;)
