nonpayment of taxes.  Another one of this owner's courses, also reportedly behind on taxes, is Charlotte Golf Links, an early Tom Doak design.

A shame, Birkdale is a nice course with some fun holes. The Carolina Trail concept was a good idea and well used in the 90s but I think it's slipped in the past several years and the Recession didn't help. Hope they can keep it going, as a group they comprise a large portion of public golf in greater Charlotte.

State taxes have now been paid the the course will reopen July 4.  The owner claims federal income taxes have also been paid. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/07/02/4143816/birkdale-golf-club-shut-down-for.html

Somehow I don't think this is going to end the story.

Well, for the health of public courses and private clubs across the country, probably 1 out of every 5 courses is not needed. Just the simple facts, the game is saturated. Too many golf courses, too many golf club companies, not enough time and not enough players

Interesting, in the one time I've been out there to play and the few times to the range, the place has been packed.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.
