  As God is overwatering the golf courses in my area, I've come to relax in my rec room with steaming tea, sometimes fortified, a stack of pillows and the remote in my hand enjoying golf videos.

  My favorites are...

  Scotland -  Great Courses of the World , narrated by Sean Connery.

  Ireland   - Grerat Courses of the World , Narrated by Pierce Brosnan

  The Players Guide to Playing St. Andrews Old Course  
             Classic Golf Experiences ,  
             Hosted and narrated by Gary McCord

   The 1995 US OPEN - Pavin the Way to Glory, hosted and narrated by Bob Costas

   Pebble Beach - Great Courses of the World, with Jack Whitaker - Also touches on Spoyglass and Spanish Bay a bit.

   The Art of Putting - Ben Crenshaw.  Also has some nice old footage of Bobby Jones tutoring some hapless hacks in Hollywood.

   Golf - It's History and Traditions. With Bobby Burnet and the world famous Archie Baird.

   Local Hero -  A fictional movie that has nothing to do with golf but has some terrific scenery around Mallaig, Scotland.  Starring Burt Lancaster and Peter Riegert.
 
   Ravenna Run - 238 miles following the Powder River Coal Train through Nebraska's Beautiful Sand Hills region between Alliance and Ravenna.       (Low budget that mostly is geared to trains and the countryside.  No golf mentioned)

   Touring the British Isles - Collection of England, Ireland and Scotland.  Not a golf video but still stirs the juices to ramble.

   I just received a six pack of VHS tapes of golf course construction and course turf management and environment.  I'll have to sit down tomorrow night to see if they are worthy to report to y'all.   (Officially the tapes are called "Golf and the Environment")

and, of course  Living With The Past DVD by Jethro Tull.  No Golf, I just couldn't imagine a fave list without JT.
 
  Are there any that I am missing that should be in my collection?  What are your favorites?  
I'll have to get Caddyshack now that I have a DVD as well.

Try SyberVision's Neuromuscular Programming for Golf with Al Geiberger. It is absolutely mesmerizing.  

When Al has you zoned out (or in, as the case may be), switch over to the Supernatural DVD by Santana. It will bring your senses back to reality ASAP.

Just an FYI, for those of you interested in SWWOG....The Pine Valley match between Nelson & Litler is being replayed on The Golf Channel at 11am EST on Feb.9, 2004.

Somebody (maybe Brian Gracely then, too?) posted about the SWWOG from Pine Valley being on back in December.  I watched, and it is a great opportunity to see that course if, like me, you never expect to see it in person.  The course is stunning.

Its also a tribute to the greatness of Nelson.  He waxes Littler, and I think it was the year that Littler won the Open.  (Or at least thereabouts.)  

Thanks for the heads-up, Brian.  If you think about it, you might put a thread out to that effect on the 8th just prior to the showing.  Set your VCR's!

A self-recorded tape of Fred Couples' third round at Sahallee in the PGA when he just shot the lights out.  I use it sometimes before I go play to try to imprint that tempo, as a musician would with metronome.  (Difference being that the metronome might actually work if the musician was any good.)

Bride and I had lunch in Penan last summer. A drive down the cliff to a hamlet of about 20 buildings overlooking a beautiful little bay.

I hate to see or read about instruction, but can never tire of Bobby Jones' instructional tapes. They broke the mold with that swing.

I too think that the Bob Jones instructional series was great.  Not only were they instructional, but they were real entertaining watching the old movie stars try to learn how to play the game.  I recall Bobby Jones using a club like a pitching wedge for long bunker shots.

Go Golf Scotland has a great series of four videos:  Scottish Classics, Scotland's Gems, Golf St Andrews and Hidden Treasures, all narrated by Peter Aliss.  Picked them up in the proshop at Royal Aberdeen a couple years ago, but I've seen them for sale since on various Scottish golf websites.

 Whitey, here's something I picked off a Scottish travel site...

 Pennan, Crovie & Gardenstown        
   Between Fraserburgh and Macduff/Banff lies a trio of charming little coastal villages, clinging hungrily to the sea cliffs like babies to their mothers' breasts. The most easterly is Pennan, which shot to fame in 1982 when the hit British movie Local Hero was filmed here. The tiny hamlet lies just off the road, at the foot of a very steep hill, and consists of little more than a row of neat, whitewashed cottages, bravely challenging the North Sea.

Mike E, those sound terrific.  I'll keep an eye out for them.

Dick, come on out, the rooms got French doors and a fair-sized window to watch the many wonderful hues of grey and the rythmic pitter patter of raindrops overhead.

Bobby Jones is a treat to watch.  I've only got a few minutes of him on the Crenshaw putting tape but it's always pleasing to kick back and watch him swing and talk about the game.

  AG,  Sounds like a keeper.

  I'll have to do some searching for the SWWOG tapes or get cable.  (I think I'm the last guy on the planet NOT to have cable.)

  Thanks gents for all the other suggestions as well.  Time for some researching.

A few years back I accidently caught a TV series on TLC with Ronan Rafferty travelling around the great golf courses in Ireland . I forget what it was called now but it was fun and I still have a couple of them on tape .

I think I still have Castlerock , Malone , Royal Portrush and Portstewart . He played three holes , gave a tip and you got the history of the clubs etc. . I remember he played Royal Portrush in a cold rainy hoolie and he laughed his way through the three holes and his enthusiasm for golf realy shone through .

Anybody else see these ? , I have searched the web and can find out very little of the series and it doesnt seem to have been released on video .

I must get the tapes transferred to DVD before they wear out .

'Legacy of the Links' opens with shots of the North Sea and narration by one of the most mellifluous voices I have ever heard. An old golfing friend of mine, Don Schwab, produced the tape and said the narration was done in one take with nary a mistake.

Don was Trevino's partner when they won the Crosby pro-am, he beat Trevino gross on the final day. I don't think he was invited back the next year.

You beat me to it , its the first thing I think about when anybody mentions the Legacy of the Links Video , That long narration then the sight of Trevino on the sands at St.Andrews .

It was also the first time I heard that story that Tom Watson seems to tell a lot nowadays , about the Duel in the Sun at Turnberry 1977.
