Fishers Island Revisited

I have played Fishers Island but once, in June of this year. I placed it in my top five for variety, challenge and the sheer joy of its openess and architectural nuances. The beauty of the place is outstanding. I have played CPC well over a hundred times, I thought Fishers trumped it.

The only thing I can say about that comment is Fishers Island in holes 3-5, 7,8 and 11 all contain elements of the thrill of the shots on 15 and 16 at CPC. I can not think of two more exhilarating venues for a game.

I played Fishers Island for the first time this summer. I was blown away. After seeing many pictures I did not expect what the course had to offer. For one the variety of green complexes was phenomenal. Redan, punchbowl, etc. etc. etc.. Fishers Island did have a bit of a "National" feel to it. I do feel that the punchbowl is better at national.

As good as I think Fishers is there is one thing missing. Strategic tee shots. Basically its hit it in between the "shit". Unlike National where you have to carefully place your tee ball, or your in big big trouble. Fishers not so much. Maybe thats what makes Fishers such a "favorite".
