Is Jerry Pate the worst announcer of all time??

I am having resorting to "mute" when Pate comes on - what a buffoon. How can ABC in their right mind hire him? I guess the same guy who hired Frank Hannigan was in charge.Nonetheless, Carnoustie continues to grow on me. Holes I like:1,2,6,12,14,15,17OK holes:3,4,5,8,9,10,11,13,16,18Semi-bad:7

Why do the networks hire ex-pros? MacEnroe in tennis brings a tremendous amount of insight as could SOME ex-pro golfers. Johnny Miller and Peter Allis are prime examples. However, once it is apparent that an ex-pro is just a nice guy will little of substance to add, then let's bring in the Alex Hay's of the world. Also, why Frank Hannigan has not come across well in the past on TV remains a mystery to me. His background and oceanic depth of knowledge makes him an ideal, at least on  paper. I am afriad Johnny Miller's well deserved success in the booth will bring on another wave of say-nothing ex-pros.

The combination of poor announcers with an absolutley useless producer left me looking forward to re runs of The Wheel of Fortune rather than endure more shots of fairways without balls landing on them, cutaways to golfers hoing out 1 foot putts when you can hear a roar from another part of the course, etc.  Does the BBC own a replay button?
