An Expensive Confidential Guide New

I have been collecting golf books for over 15 years now and have gained over 70 books on golf architecture, although of late it has cost me big bucks. I do not know why but two books have escaped my collection, The Architects of Golf and A Confidential Guide to Golf Courses. Recently I bought The Architects of Golf for $175 probably far to much but I could not find it anywhere, and recently a Confidential Guide on Amazon was selling for $350. Now it may be a good book but $350 is a lot of bucks. Anyway what current books available are going to soar in price in the future.

Like many on here, I also collect golf related books. I had been looking for Tom Doaks Confidential Guide, and had no luck. I had even contacted Tom D. who had a few ideas of Ebay and such.

I got lucky and found a copy on Ebay for $29 in fantastic shape. I was immediately contacted by another person offering me $75 to which I declined.

I also just picked up an autographed copy of Ben Crenshaws "A Feel for the Game" at my club, but one never knows what will increase over time much like the stockmarket.

Keep searching auction sites and the like. Good luck.

Sounds like the "black market" value of The Confidential Guide has gone up since Pacific Dunes!

It's possible the $350 book could be one of the older limited-edition copies, but I don't know how Amazon would have gotten one of those.  That edition of 1,000 might be worth something to collectors, but the Sleeping Bear Press edition included all those courses and more, PLUS color pictures, so that's the one you'd want to own.

Of course, in my library I still have two copies of the ORIGINAL edition of 40 ... I think those are going to be worth something someday.

I've seen the other side.....stumbling upon a copy in a half price book store selling for about $10 just about a year ago.

It felt like stealing.

  Those originals are worth money NOW. I would love to have a xerox copy of an original,  just to see the unvarnished original opinions.

I would think if you checked any of tom's  designs  that they may offer it in the pro shop.
I'm sure I saw copies  at Black Forest and High Pte.  at one time.

I just orderd mine from Beechtree Golf Club(MD) 410-297-9700.  One of the Golf Professional's said he is sitting on about 20 more copies.  $45.00 + shipping.  I hope this helps.
