Ian,
I had a round like that with my father and son on the Old Course. Son played great.  My Dad was beaming all the way around walking on two artificial knees. My score didn't matter.
I rolled in a 20 footer with 4 feet of break on 11 and my son topped it with a 15 foot downhiller.
As we walked up 18 a piper started Scotland The Brave, I lingered back to get a photo of my Dad and son. When I caught up my Dad was in tears, I started crying with joy.  I regrouped to make a 10 footer for birdie on that wonderful stage.  Son got up and down from Valley of Sin for 75.  Perfect day.
That would have been a perfect last round.

Tom,
Gives me goose bumps thinking about ... I think I better leave and go play golf except for this darn valley fog.  Haven't seen the sun in days.

Two moments that wouldn't give me a second thought if I had to hang it up....

First was a couple of years ago at my father's club member-guest.  We've never played well in one of these events, but this week we played well and caught more than our shares of good breaks.  We win our final match going away and played extremely well.  We were in the 1st flight (2nd overall) and decide to walk the last few holes with the final match.  The RedWings had won the Stanley Cup that year and Darren McCarty brought the Cup out to the club for the day and he's cruising down the fairway with the Cup riding shotgun.  So there we are, drinking beers in the middle of the fairway and taking pictures with the Cup.  Last round I ever played with my dad and it doesn't get much better than that.

Second was last January in Scotland.  I had a weekend in between meetings and hoped to get some good weather and a round or two.  I'd called ahead to Prestwick and arrived to a completely empty parking lot on a beautiful day.  The general manager greeted me with, "you must be the American" and asked if I was played alone.  I told him I was and he asked me, "if I'd like to play with the Captain of the Club as he was here for the day."  After a tall whiskey (loosener) and a history lesson around the clubhouse, we had the entire course to ourselves.  We played in about 2.5hrs and it was easily one of the most enjoyable rounds I've ever played.  He had to leave after 14, so I played the final loop by myself and could have sworn that Old Tom was walking along as the sun was setting.

At this point, the rest is just gravy....

"If it all ended today...." huh?

After spending most of the day on here with some of these recent threads may be I'm the craziest one on here but even so after some of the stuff I've been reading recently I've got to get out of this asylum!

TEPaul,

I understand that Rees Jones has just been awarded the contract at Philadelphia Mental Institute to design a course that would best embody the sterile and "normal" theme that they are trying to embrace.

"The padded walls and symmetry of the cells will allow the patients to challenge their golfing instincts, whether they have a true foursome or just their multiple personalities.  I've never been more excited about a project as I am about PMI", Jones said at the grand opening.

...be careful what you ask for. ;)

Brian:

Don't poke fun at Rees. He's a great guy, he's enlightening, he's deep, he's a friend! I spent about half a day with him a couple of months ago and he kept saying;

"Bazball been berry berry good to me!"

And I kept saying to him;

"Rees what the hell are you talking...."

But he just kept saying;

"bazball been berry berry......"
