Beacon Hill GC was a 27 hole Johnny Miller designed private club just outside Leesburg,VA. It opened in 2001 one went bust in 2006. I never played there but its reputation was difficult, punitive, a monument to Johnny Miller's ego. The course sat fallow for years. You could still see some of the holes from Route 7 Eventually nature took it's course.

Well, it's back with 18 holes restored/touched up by Tom Clark who was apparently involved back in the day before Miller came on board. Story here:

I’ve been watching to see how the club will do in attracting members at a pretty steep initiation fee, given the factors to be overcome.   No clubhouse or amenities of any kind.   The course as initially designed was stupid difficult.   Many good private club alternatives in the area.   Last time people who joined lost a hefty initiation fee after only 2 years. The HOA that owns it searched for years for a management company willing to take it on.

That said, they must have a business model.  Details would make a good  study in golf economics.  I hope that they make it.  It will be interesting to play the redesigned routing when it opens.  Clark had 36 holes in which to find a solid 18.
