Q for the Braid scholars re J R Stutt
« on: April 11, 2025, 04:03:58 PM »
So, I’ve lived in Fife for forty years now and have played nearly all of the fifty-odd courses. One missing from the portfolio was the Dunfermline Golf Club course at Pitfirrane.
Righting that situation today, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The current course is the fourth home of the Club, having previously been at Halbeath, the MacKenzie at Ferryhills and the Braid at Torrie. They’ve been playing at Pitfirrane since the mid-fifties. The clubhouse (a yellow ochre Scottish baronial pile) has to be seen to be believed!
I couldn’t help but feel a Braid ‘presence’ on many of the holes and checked on the history when I got home. Apparently Stutt laid it all out and, knowing of his family connection, I wonder how much he might have been influenced by Braid.
There’s a good few holes with a very Gleneagles vibe and the routing makes very similar use of the rolling nature of the land.
Any thoughts/knowledge/wild supposition from the ‘Braid-y Bunch’? (Sorry, couldn’t miss the opportunity!)
Cheers,
F.

The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.
