When blindness is not obvious New
« on: April 02, 2025, 03:10:05 PM »
I am in the camp of those who are befuddled by TOC based on one play. In turning that fact over in my mind, it finally struck me that the lines of sight are so different and difficult. I embrace blind shots, but on most courses, it is obvious that you are facing one. On TOC, I thought I should be able to see the line, but I really could not even playing with two others who had played it many, many times and were giving me the lines. It is like a magic trick of deception and perception.

I am trying to think of courses where the blindness is more deceptive than obvious. Brora is one as is Rosses Point. Maybe Paraparaumu Beach. Others? Or is my premise off base?

Ira,

You’ve listed a few of the poster children for that platonic ideal size of terrain. I think Tom mentions it in the Conf Guide.

I don't think "blindness" and "blandness" (which makes it tough to pick out an aiming line) are the same thing.
