UP TOP: The Story of Landmand
« on: March 31, 2025, 09:25:30 AM »
I apologise in advance for what is, essentially, a commercial post, but as this is my first golf book to publish (my Colt bio is still in production; we hope to get it out in the near future), I hope and think I can be excused a little excitement.
'UP TOP: The Story of Landmand' went to press this morning. It will be available in the course's pro shop when the golf season opens on May 17, and will also be available via the course's web shop at https://landmandgc.square.site/s/shop -- it should be up there and available for pre-order very soon.

[I tried to share an image of the book's cover but couldn't get the damned thing to work. Anyone interested will find it on all my socials]

Thanks for the heads up. I'll order one when it becomes available on the website.

I enjoyed my visit last summer to Landmand where I was able to play 4 rounds over a few days with some buddies. Really nice folks who run the course.

The single best story in the book is about one of the D8 bulldozers that the Andersens bought to build the course with. Once the earthmoving was done, they and King-Collins came to an agreement where the family would rent the dozers to the architects for use on their other projects. One of the two went to Red Feather in Lubbock, but the other didn't make it. You'll have to buy the book to find out why :)

Adam, why did you write this book?  I don't mean this in a condescending way, as I bet it's very good and very interesting. I'm more curious about why this kind of book for Landman? I feel like you could write a genesis story about a lot of courses over the last 30 years and the only other one I've seen is the Making of Pacific Dunes.

I'd love to read more of them, so hopefully this is the start of a trend!

I’ve been doing PR for Landmand since before they opened, so I have got to know the Andersen family and the course’s key staff really well. And I have known Rob and Tad for much longer — I was the first journalist to see Sweetens Cove back in 2012.

Landmand’s merchandise sales numbers are really excellent, so I came to the conclusion that a book about the story of the course could be interesting to write, hopefully interesting to read, and had the potential to sell well enough to make it worthwhile. Fortunately for me, Will Andersen agreed, and here we are.

Have spoken to Will Andersen and we have a solution. If there are other non-US crazies who would like to buy the book, enter the Landmand address in the delivery address box -- 2073 S Bluff Rd, Homer, NE 68030 -- and in the Notes section, say that you are an overseas customer and give your actual address. That should deal with the issue.

Congratulations on the book. Is this book different than the red Landmand book, and if so, does your book also have hole-by-hole descriptions?

Yes, it's completely different: the red book, I believe, is essentially a detailed course tour; mine is a narrative about how the course came to be, and the people who were involved in it. It doesn't contain a detailed-hole-by-hole description.
