Sorry but paying $500 for an amateur event is just too much. When I attended at Cypress in 1981 I think we paid basically $10 a day! I know the USGA wants to keep numbers down but very much hmmm....

Doesn't feel very "inclusive" (a term USGA CEO Mike Whank routinely trots out these days)...    :D

Mike Whank's compensation in 2023 was $2,370,318, not bad for wanting to be inclusive.

The American non-profit designation is basically a scam.  In many cases it precludes otherwise very wealthy organizations from contributing to society with "legalized" tax avoidance schemes.  Even the PGATour is one of these with other notable sports leagues.

Don't get me started on non-profit "churches" who function mostly as political action committees and revenue generators for charlatans.

I see it, live it, and breath it every day here in Utah.  LDS church has a net worth of $200+ Billion and at this point is basically functioning as a for profit corporation masquerading as a church. They own massive assets including billion dollar shopping malls and are the largest landowner in Florida.

$500 is for all three days and no one that has commented so far has made that distinction. I would gladly pay $100 for the Friday ducat that allows you to walk the golf course during the practice round and attend the opening ceremonies. No issue either with the $200 to attend the matches on either Saturday or Sunday. Finally for those that are despondent over the USGA salaries don’t join or renew your membership. That’ll show them! ;)

Thanks for the heads up - I just signed up for the lottery. Wasn't planning on going but if selected it's easy enough to make a trip out there to watch at least a day of matches. A few hundred $ to walk around CPC and watch some high level matches is not hard math...

@John,
Wacky... amazing the USGA posted the same information on their website. I assume we can just say, it is poor etiquette of the USGA posting salaries. I'm just happy money isn't important for the USGA.

Must be California inflation. I think we paid £30 for the weekend at TOC. Now that’s more like easy math.

For sure. That is amazing.

Unfortunately sporting events (frankly all events...concerts, etc.) cost a lot more money to attend these days in the States. Would I rather spend hundreds to attend the PHX Waste Management open (where some people spend thousands per day to attend) or a couple of hundred to watch the Walker Cup at Cypress Point? Maybe many would pick PHX, but I'd happily take CPC instead. To each their own.

No one is getting "lottery" tickets for all three days.

Saying it is $500 to go to the Walker Cup is a stretch just so you can whine. Whining has never been a winning strategy. I guarantee the market will command these prices.

I will gladly pay $200 per ticket for the Saturday or Sunday rounds for my son and I if we get selected in the lottery. It's about a fifth of the cost of a cheap Taylor Swift ticket and will be a lot more fun.

I applied for tickets, hoping to take my teenage son.  If we don't luck out in the lottery, I am seriously considering buying on the secondary market.  I imagine this will be my only chance to ever see Cypress Point, and like others here, I consider the base cost of the tickets reasonable, in relative terms.  For better or worse, I do a "cost/benefit" analysis on practically everything, and for these tickets the return on investment would be sky high.  While it may be an ignorant point of view, I don't consider the tax status of the USGA or the salary of its executives any of my business.  Outrage about such topics seems to be counterproductive.

Gotta wonder where all the dosh goes given the heavy reliance on volunteers and amateurs as the showcase.

This can’t be a serious comment although I see no emojis. You really want to compare the price from 1981 to 2025? C’mon man.

I think $200 for the chance to walk one of the world's great courses is a small price to pay.

Adjusted for inflation, $10 in 1981 is equivalent to about $34 in 2025. It's not surprising, but it's fair to point out that ticket prices have risen faster than inflation, by a lot.
