OT - Doolin Ireland
« on: March 17, 2025, 11:12:59 AM »
Off topic but given St. Patrick’s Day - our favorite day of travel included the Doolin Cliff Walk in the morning followed by the Doolin Music House in the evening.  A joyful  memory that trumps Lahinch, Ballybunion and Dooks.

Please set aside a day if in the area.

Doolin is a cracking spot. That whole area of the beautiful limestone karst landscape of the Burren is well worth a few days of anyone’s time (in between the golf!):
The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

Might as well make this thread ever so slightly on-topic! The (second) best Course we played on last year’s Ireland MoHo trip was the totally magnificent Doolin Pitch and Putt. On a truly Irish weather day (I’ve never been so soaked on a golf course!) we hired our wedges and putters and a couple of balls each and headed forth into the gloom.
The Cliffs of Moher are an ever-present backdrop:

Beautiful rolling Links landscape:

Lovely greensites:

Classic Golf Swings:

Delightful contours:

Wildlife:

Magnificent Vistas:

Classic Golf Garb:

All for about Five Euros. Elemental Golf and just a great laugh.

Splendid photo post Marty!
Fun, inexpensive and playable by all ages.
This, not the kind of flash, immaculate places we see on TV, is the essence of golf.

2005 stayed there for Christmas and walked to O’Connor’s every night. Played Lahinch all by myself on Christmas Eve ( except for one goat on 9). Family went to Midnight Mass at 800 then went there the pub. Daughter swam in bay on Christmas Day with the other polar day swimmers.

I took a train from Dublin to Galway and then a bus to Doolin.  Interacting with locals on the bus ride was a memorable experience....something I would have missed if I had driven myself.

That's a beautiful part of the world and someday I hope to disappear there for my final years on earth

Love County Clare.  Would actually think about moving there one day! Played a fun pitch and putt near Lahinch
