I'm still looking for the absolute best cheeseburger at a golf course grill!  As of today after 50 plus years of research two stand out .

Thel half way house at Woodcrest CC had the best of my working days (looper) , with a wonderful woman named Phyllis (mother of Bobby " Chez" of  crabcake fame)  Phyllis used some kind of salt that made her burger special and could cook it the most glorious Medium Rare while making her famous tuna and other delicacies. She was the GOAT     ( I do believe she was the sister of Angelo Errichetti , the legendary CAMDEN MAYOR of movie fame.

In my golf career I'm going to go with the outside grill at Saucon Valley ...ate two many times would have had three except I wasn't paying !

If you can find firm and fast, a mix of difficulty and flow, and a great outdoor grill post golf , you have nirvana

Archie,

I have been pondering this question since you posed it…and do not have a good answer: some great burgers in the clubhouse, but they were not on the outdoor grill. However, I highly recommend the hot dog at the Southern Pines halfway (after number 10) house. An equally important OT question: will they keep the halfway (after number eight) house at Yale after the restoration? No better spot to watch the joys of others playing number 9 plus some really good vibes.

Tim,

I've had cheeseburgers at both, Quaker and Saucon. Quaker's burger is good (don't like the buns), but I'll say the cheeseburger at Weyhill's grill is better. I'm not sure if Archie is referring to the outside grill by the main club house /pool - grill was removed several years ago, too much smoke. The Saucon burger wasn't oversize, medium buns, good ratio fat-meat, well season, & caramelized onions.  Saucon took onion rings off their menu 2 years ago, but the combination of Weyhill's cheeseburger and onion rings was a must for my wife prior to teeing off.

The most interesting 'cheeseburger' I had was the burgerdog at Olympic, then subsequently at Plainfield.

Archie-I’ll cast a vote for Quaker Ridge as best cheeseburger at a golf course grill. I haven’t had the one at Saucon Valley’s outside grill but the one in the clubhouse is tremendous.

Crab Cakes after golf at Pine Needles.

Ask Oprah.

Unless I'm starving or already not playing well I've been skipping the dog or burger at the turn after a few back nine crashes trying to carry sandwich and beer while pushing my cart.

You guys must be loaded to travel all over the US for a decent cheeseburger.  There are at least 5 good joints within 10 miles of where I live, but hey do whatever blows your hair back.   ;D

It may sound corny but I am pretty much happiest when I am playing with the guys that I work with. It doesn't even matter where we are playing anymore. We don't even speak the same language but we love golf course architecture.

Low end public Palm Springs golf courses (which still are north of $100).  I belong to two private clubs in Minnesota.   A third down here is beyond my means.

I really miss the pace of play but it is interesting to see what compromises with the courses have been made to handle public play and its highly variable economics, the differences in clientele and the fact that the game is still pretty fun regardless of venue.

Fortunately public tastes seem to vary from my view of what constitutes a good golf course.   You can pay $100 for an inoffensive course with interesting greens or over $300 for a very mediocre golf course with nicer bottles of water and a more attractive beverage cart attendant.

I'm hoping to play a bunch of Montana 9 holers.

Jason, I am moving to Palm Desert in May and low-end is my milieu. Although I have been a DG participant since around 2011 (my skimpy financial contributions reflecting my skimpy financial resources are not reflected on the contributions page. ::) ), I have not met a single GCA soul in person.

A mental note, Jason, doesn’t count for as much as I would like, but time will tell.
