Catalina Country Club MacKenzie Plans Discovered

Evidently, Catalina Country Club found detailed Alister MacKenzie plans during a recent renovation, including green sketches, bunkers, and hole layouts. This is a historic find and great insight into the mind of Dr. MacKenzie.


If anyone has access to the documents, I would greatly appreciate to see them published online for historical research purposes.

There were clues to the ruse in the dates suggested (late 1926 to early 1927), I simply checked the Mackenzie Chronology (with great contributions by so many on here) and Dr. Mackenzie left for NZ on NYE 1926...so didn't match up...but the use of Mackenzie (with a lower case "k") and correct spelling of Alister will have helped obscure matters...

From the Club's own website, hardly sounds like a candidate club for spending significant money in 1926 for a full set of The Good Doctors inputs:

"Looking at the wonderful 27 holes on offer to members and visitors today, it is hard to believe that back in 1920 the golf course on which Catalina Club now sits started as a 5-hole oiled sand green course, framed by a racing track

The horse racing track on the Far South Coast was owned by Percy Bill, while the golf course adjacent to it was affectionately known as “Bill’s Paddock.” Interestingly, Percy utilized cows to maintain the grass length, effectively employing them as the first lawn mowers. In the early days, golf competitions consisted of three rounds of the 5-hole course, totaling 15 holes.

Originally named Batemans Bay Golf Club, the establishment had six founding members. Over time, the course evolved and expanded. Initially featuring five sand greens, the club gradually increased the number to nine by 1957.

In 1961, an exciting development occurred as the first 9-hole grass green course was laid out and made available for play.
Just six years later, members were delighted to experience an 18-hole layout for the first time."

When the roof joists in the roof space look far younger than the discovered "evidence", it does make one question...especially given the date of the announcement.

I think more than a few have fallen for it...or the Club have fallen for the forger's art (not another GCA scammer?)
