I doubt I'll be able to compete with the young'uns as I'll be 85-ish, but I'm hoping that continued advances in technology don't require back tees near the Walt Whitman Bridge to keep the best course in the US still competitively relevant by then.

I don't think I'll be able to make it there in 2044. I was born in 1944.  ;D

It is absolutely crazy how far out they are projecting these events...US open projected through 2051?

25 years ago I didn't have a cell phone and my internet cut off when someone picked up the phone I did have.  I hit my five iron around 150 yards (in 25 years I might be back at that distance), I still used a persimmon 3 wood, my driver was the size of my current 3 wood and my golf balls had rubber bands in them.

There will likely be one or more young men playing in that event who have not been born yet.

Borrowed from Jim McCabe's "Power Fades:"

"I figure by 2044, the best 15-and-16-year-olds will be pros, middle-schoolers will be demanding NIL money, and the Walker Cup will probably be looking at the best of the best from U.S. Kids Golf."

What is the purpose of selecting this 19 years in advance?

Will they let me hold my mortgage-burning party down there...?

2 years ago the USGA announced an event at my home club, 2051. The average age of club members is 65.4. A few of us started a pool on who of us will attend the event.

I used to think that the point of scheduling the US Open ten years in advance was to keep the price paid to the host club from rising further.  Any deal signed in 2015 looks like a bargain now.

But surely there is not much $ changing hands with regard to the 2044 Walker Cup, so I presume they are doing it because Pine Valley offered to host and they don’t want them to back out.

Maybe to give them sufficient time to do a renovation, followed by a restoration, followed by another renovation by 3 different architectural firms.  ;D

So I'm playing last week in a game at Atlantis Golf Club just North of Boynton Beach. We have about 30 itinerant golf "bums" of all sizes , shapes and age playing a points game, with a thirty dollar throw in.   The Thursday game has some pretty good players and the group in front of me is playing the tees from the blues,  not the whites like the rest of us.  I ask one of the guys and they say the two guest are pretty good players so they moved back .  Nice of them I think .  The other guy in our group who I just met also says one of them played professionally for a couple years. He's playing with his son last name Burrough's.

Clark Burrough's , yep its him so I stroll over and say hi, he doesn't remember me, but couldn't have been nicer and we chat for a minute about the week, which was my last one working at Pine Valley. I ask him about his caddy who of course I remember as Schmitty , who was quite a character, a poet and professor of weed science, yep that kind .lol.

Thanks Joe Bausch as always for the memories , can't believe they are booking  20 years out

p.s. Clark was a member of the victorious team USA

I figure they do it to gain favors, publicity, and goodwill otherwise for something that almost none of them will be around for when its time to collect on the inconvenience of holding the event. Its the future members who will "pay up" not them.  ;)

Locking the club up as a USGA championship holder. Competition with the PGA.

I was able to walk Pine Valley during the Crump Cup, the year Merion had the Walker Cup the week before.
