Courses inspired by video games
« on: February 23, 2025, 07:59:52 PM »
I’ve been thinking about how golf course design in video games has evolved over the years, from the wild fantasy courses to the more realistic ones in PGA Tour 2K and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
It got me wondering—has anyone ever seriously considered bringing a video game golf course to life? I’m not talking about recreating a historical course like The Lido, but rather taking inspiration from a virtual layout—whether faithfully replicating a digital design or adapting elements into a real-world build.
Of course, that raises an interesting question—is there a great video game golf course? Just because a design works with a joystick and a power meter doesn’t mean it translates to real-world playability. Are there virtual courses out there that could actually make for great real-life golf, or are most of them best left in the digital realm?
Would love to hear if anyone has thought about this or even taken steps toward making it happen!

I know Jackson Kahn used and older version to test ideas for the Bad Little 9 in Scottsdale.

Other than that it's become a popular rendering engine for golf architects
