I have never been a big fan of courses being used for the US Open or PGA that are regular PGA Tour stops like PB, Torrey Pines, Quail Hollow, etc. and I am thinking that the modifications cause much of the character of the course to be lost.  Of course part of the problem is how far the pros are hitting the ball as was seen at PB where Rory was just flying it over trees and making a par 5 into a driver, 7 iron.  I can remember when the 18th at PB was a 3 shot hole.  The greens are PB are small and they can't go too fast with green speeds or they will lose possible hole locations and internal out of bounds would make no sense.  Is the answer rolling the ball back - I don't know but it certainly has some credibility in this instance.

Jerry a significant difference for PB's case is the time of year the events are played. With the AT&T being February with any US open mid June. The primary defense being the tiny greens, they can get the greens harder to hold in June, especially out of the typical juicy rough. I like 2 being a par 4, and #4 being tempting to drive some days. In any sort of windy conditions it is very fun to watch.
