The course now starts with what the map shows as #2, and ends with what the map shows as #1, because that's where the clubhouse for the 18 hole course is. I wonder why they didn't always have it that way?

Keney Park GC

Here is the original routing map of Keney Park showing Devereux Emmets 18-hole plan for Keney Park. Robert Jack Ross had been given credit for building the back nine, but it appears to have been Emmet’s design all along. This layout was sent to me by Anthony Pioppi.

Here is a 1934 layout of Forsgate Farms Country Club.  This particular map was made by Frank Hopkins, who made many drawings and illustrations for Golf Illustrated in the 1920’s and 1930’s. He would typically sign his illustrations “Hop”.  I apologize for the glare on this photo.

A few examples of Frank Hopkins illustrations from Golf Illustrated:

Good question about Balboa 9, Matt (Reply #1658). Although the DG might have the answer, I have asked the City of San Diego’s Golf Division.
