Where would you like to play in 2025?
« on: January 01, 2025, 02:00:46 PM »
For the sake of making the question interesting, I'm going to suggest we share two courses. One course that you'd like to play that is reasonable and/or you're planning to play. The other course would be cost and/or access is not an issue.

I'll start.

I'm hope to play Iona GC this year, and if time and travel weren't an issue, I think I'd like to go to Lofoten Links.

Thanks Matt for the thread.

Both Royal Ashdown Forest and Askernish have been 1-2 on my UK wishlist for some time, but I never seem to be able to make them happen. I'm hoping 2025 will allow me to play both, but there's no clear plan at the moment.

Iona is a special place. I hope you enjoy your travels there.

I already have a plan to play Dunaverty and Machrihanish Dunes. They aren’t courses that are near the top of my new course play list, but at the moment I have nothing else simmering on the back burner.  I knocked off three high priority trips last year so I am guessing this will be a down year.

Only firm new plays in the diary are Dunstanburgh and Seahouses but I'm hoping to wangle a trip to South West Ireland for some more Irish treats.

That’s practically a day trip for you! I wouldn’t bother with the front 9 at Seahouses. Play the back twice.

I only need 1 course to complete both Top 100 Golf week lists from 2006....sigh, it's this course in Georgia that has some history attached to it......
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

I've started planning for 2025 to be the year I finally complete the research for volume 4 of The Confidential Guide - aiming for a summer 2026 publication.

I figure I've got 25-30 days of time to see whatever I want to see in Europe and Morocco.

It's a weird choice but the course I might be most excited to see is Noria, in Marrakech.  The interaction of the golf course and the buildings is intriguing.

The "stretch goal" is the Royal Palace Agadir golf course.  That one might be harder than Augusta National . . . all I need is a green light from the royal family!

NZ via Melbourne and Tasmania beckon.
Ireland and return to NE Scotland always in my mind.
One day must, must, must get to Prestwick and Brancaster.
More courses grazed by domesticated animals require investigatation.

Somerset Hills , Shinnecock, and Garden City.

I don’t list “access wanted “ names. I have the contacts I just need to get it done.

The European Tour played the Moroccan Open at Agadir in the mid 1990s The one year I played not a single player had played the course since the tournament the previous year. it's quite bizarre playing a course without a single divot mark or pitch mark on a green.
Apparently the King stopped going there quite early on - something about 'evil spirits'.

Mike-I miss some of the not so subtle access whoring attempts of days gone by when shame took a back seat to belt notching. Just sayin. ;D

I can rectify that, Tim!

I am fortunate enough to be spending 4 days at Pine Valley this April but would love to fly in a day or two early to see Merion East (no direct contact). Consider that a straight out belt-notching, access whore request to see if anyone can help?

All in Michigan:
Hawkshead
MSU Akers
Eagle Eye

Nothing particularly exciting, but I try to knock off a few new (to me) Michigan courses each year. Those are my 2025 targets.

Must play Rolling Green which is 20 minutes from Merion. Maybe you were using super duper access whoring by not even mentioning the course!!

Given my association with the WJTS, all of my wannaplays #Iguanabees are Travis courses ...

Cape Arundel
Hollywood
North Jersey
Camden (because I love Kris Spence' work)
Ekwanok
Garden City c
Garden City g
Grand Mere
Round Hill
White Beeches

and when they are restored

Jekyll Island
Westchester
Canoe Brooks
National Links Trust courses in DC area

I've become interested in Schuyler Meadows as well. It's an Emmett, but close enough.

None of these will happen any time soon, if ever, but they are my dreamer list.
Coming in 2025
~Robert Moses Pitch 'n Putt

You need to get to Grand-Mere! With the conversion from USD to CAD, it's a whopping $35 in your maiden currency!

I'm off to Jekyll Island in a couple weeks to see what's going on there. I'm excited to check it out... what a cool project, and a fun architect for two newer architects to show off.

My new ones lined up for 2025 are Woodhall Spa, Ganton, Hollinwell, Brancaster, Hunstanton, Sherwood Forest, Alwoodley, Moortown, Old Barnwell, and Luling.

I think there is a good chance for Yeaman's Hall and CC of Charleston.

Places I am hoping to get to soon include St. Enodoc (Church) and Royal Porthcawl, most likely in 2026.

I am planning to spend more time at Cal Club in 2025.
2025 Line Up: Cal Club, Spanish Oaks GC, Luling, Tree Farm, Old Barnwell, Moortown, Alwoodley, Ganton, Woodhall Spa, Brancaster, Hunstanton, Sherwood Forest, Hollinwell....so far.
