I think replayablity, a measure of how often different strategies and unexpected circumstance appear each time you play, is a very important factor in determining the greatest golf courses in the world.  However I think people have every right not to consider that when they talk about their favorites because unfortunately the fact of the matter is a lot of them will not actually get to experience that replayable interest.  For highly rated resort courses the cost is too high, the distance too far from where they live, or it is just plain too busy to get on often.  For highly rated private courses, most won’t even get to play them, but if they do it will only be once or on rare occasion as the guest of a member.  If it were possible to run an experiment where the same people play the SV courses all summer long, it would be interesting to see how much their ranking of favorites changes.

The funny thing is that the actual members of Lido are quite happy if the resort guests don't play it too much.

Very understandable.
The visitor money coming in might reduce a members dues but it’s pretty self-defeating if as a member you can’t get on the course as often as you wish.
This aspect is one of the downsides to being a member at a course that has significant visitor demand.

A lot of the Lido members were actually Founder members at Sand Valley, who were not getting enough access to those courses because the resort had become so busy.  They were able to convert their original founder membership [which would have been paid back over time] into a Lido membership.
